The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology, Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplantationhas an opening for a full-time Assistant Professor position. 

Nature of Work:

The overarching focus of this translational/basic science position will be identification of genes and pathways that can be targeted to enhance efficacy of immunotherapies against cancer.  More specifically they include:

  • Employ a systems immunology approach to understand the molecular program required for durable and effective T cell immunity during infection and cancer.
  • Define the biomarkers that predict the clinical outcome of an adoptive T-cell therapy against metastatic melanoma through profiling the transcriptomes and epigenomes of human tumor infiltrating T cells.
  • Collaborate with physician/scientists to identify prognostic biomarkers for cancer immunotherapies using cutting-edge single-cell technologies. Collaborate with physician/scientists to conduct correlative studies of patients in clinical trials to assess response to therapy and markers of efficacy.Use gene editing technologies to uncover novel pathways that can be targeted to enhance antitumor T-cell response during cancer immunotherapies.

Position Emphasis:

    Expertise in:  RNAseq, CHIPseq, genome sequencing, shRNA screens including NexGen platforms, ddPCR, multiparameter flow cytometry, mass cytometry and single cell omics methods such as scRNAseq using the 10x platform;Understanding a broad range of analysis tools to facilitate scientific discovery;Analytics/capabilities to perform multiple projects/lines of investigation simultaneously;Comfort with interactions with other end-users and research departments on campus including HIII, CCTSI, UCCC, CMOCO, CHCO pathology;Build and maintain strong business relationships with other University schools, centers, departments and administrative units;Establish, manage and maintain vendor support and relationships;Oversee laboratory invoicing, tracking, reporting, and management of grant funding and expenses;Manage workload, conduct performance evaluations, and develop performance management plans for direct reports;Support administrative tasks as assigned;Mentorship and supervision of students/trainees and staff.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $100,000 to $115,000.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctoral degree in immunology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology or a related biology or scientific field
Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be willing and able to successfully pass a 10-panel drug test
  • Must be willing and able to successfully pass a national criminal background check
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an academic medical center or scientific research environment including independent research investigations, planning and operations in a laboratory environment
  • Experience with university-based research projects and grant submission and management
  • Experience managing or leading a team of graduate students or post-doctoral trainees

  • Ability to coordinate efforts of individuals and teams to deliver successfully on projects and program support
  • Ability to motivate and collaborate with individuals to perform when there is no direct supervisory relationship
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Experience in sound research principles and ethical conduct of research
  • Knowledge of and sound management of financial practices
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, professional working relations with subordinates, peers, colleagues, associates, administrative staff members, faculty, and with personnel of external agencies and organizations
  • Excellent communication abilities across all levels of an organization and varieties of technical expertise
  • Strong writing skills and abilities
