Position Description:
The Center for Immigration Law and Policy at UCLA School of Law is a new dynamic Center seeking a Communications Manager to significantly amplify our work through strategic communications. The Center will generate innovative ideas at the intersection of immigration scholarship and practice; serve as a hub for transforming those ideas into meaningful changes in immigration policy at the local, state, and national level; and empower students with unique opportunities for experiential learning through work with academics, practitioners, policymakers, and activists.

The Communications Manager will have primary responsibility for the Center's communications, including proactive, strategic communications as well as media outreach. The Communications Manager will build the brand of the Center, develop and implement communications strategy for the Center's various initiatives, and use multiple platforms to tell the stories of people whose lives are affected by immigration policy. In practice, the Manager's day-to-day work will include developing and implementing strategic communications plans; promoting the Center's events and written work product, including by working with Center's faculty and staff to communicate research output in accessible ways; interfacing with journalists, other campus communications professionals, and others working on immigration policy; producing Center e-newsletters throughout the year; developing and maintaining a social media presence, including through daily social media engagement across a variety of platforms; and keeping the Center's website updated.

The Communications Manager will be supervised by the Center's director and also communicate regularly with the Center's Faculty Co-Directors. An ideal candidate will have strategic vision, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels in the university and beyond, including faculty, students, and people working on immigration issues outside the university community. The Communications Manager should be knowledgeable about the substance of immigration law and policy, and experienced in print and digital communications as well as social media.

The Communications Manager will also provide some administrative support as needed to ensure the Center continues to operate smoothly.
