Departmental Overview

The Pantas and Ting Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SCET) is the premiere institution at UC Berkeley for the study and practice of entrepreneurship and technology innovation. SCET is globally recognized for developing the Berkeley Method, an internationally recognized approach to teaching technology entrepreneurship to undergraduate students, innovation to graduate students, and technology firm leadership to professionals and executives. The SCET Academic Program Manager administers the curricular programming for the Center which comprises of ~2000 undergraduate and graduate students from across campus enrolled in 30-40 courses annually. This position oversees scheduling, enrollment, instructor and ASE training and support, course review, course management, as well as academic advising and student services. In addition, this position is responsible for identifying, implementing, and managing improvements to SCET academic policies and processes in coordination with campus policies. Also, this position serves as the SCET liaison to the campus and external community for SCET academic programs, recruitment efforts, and cross-campus collaborations. The Academic Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the certificate program as well as proposal for the minor and/or related big-picture curriculum efforts. This position works closely with the SCET Director of Operations and Chief Learning Officer on determining course offerings based on budget and course evaluations.

This position is integral to the management of SCET's growing academic program and support to the student and faculty populations. In addition, this position supports SCET and the Director of Operations with providing operational support inclusive of, but not limited to, student assistant and researcher hiring, financial preparer, event planning and execution, marketing and communications to the various SCET programs with an emphasis in supporting Executive Education.



Responsibilities

25% Applying advanced student services concepts, provides the most complex student services to the organization's management, faculty and students. Identifies and refers for resolution intricate student issues / grievances such as alleged discrimination, complex grade dispute issues, and students' personal crises; recommends petition exceptions that affect the requirements of multiple departments; facilitates new course approval through interaction with the Coordination of College Policy, Academic Senate, or similar organization. Independently manages SCET student services, providing advice and assistance to students on academic progress, scheduling and enrollment concerns. Oversees course application processes and coordination of enrollment for numerous cross-campus collaborations, global partners, and concurrent enrollment interest.Advises students and faculty regarding campus policies and procedures on student conduct. Provides guidance on policy interpretation, provides resources for instructors, and serves as point of contact for logistic inquiries. Participates in professional student services committees and communities of practice.

25% Finances and Operations for the Center with a significant role supporting Executive program operations.
Assists Director of Operations with finances as serving as the Center's preparer for the following transactions inclusive of, but not limited to, allocations and expense transfers, direct retros, audits and fiscal close, one-time payments and honorariums and purchasing. Supports the overall operations of the Center's Executive Programs including marketing, student registration, participant setup, purchasing, speaker payments, event planning, and other duties. Coordinates and implements non-complex student events and assists in the planning and implementation of complex events. Manages academic and Center events including recruitment events (CalDay and Open House), student end of year events, instructor training, workshops and bootcamps, and Center retreat. Guides Center student intern team to execute events.

20% Recruitment and Marketing: Maintains and analyzes student enrollment data and develops outreach strategies by identifying targeted programs on and off campus to meet organization's goals; coordinates and executes outreach activities based on analysis of enrollment data to reach underserved populations.
Evaluates program within entrepreneurship community at Cal, domestic and internationally and makes recommendations on areas of collaboration and opportunities for improvement. Advises prospective students on necessary academic preparation and appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective student's goals. Collaborates with Chief Marketing Officer to develop and execute publicity/marketing strategy and efforts with regards to the Center's academics. Manages all academic related publicity and communication on various channels (website, email, social media). Collaborates on and makes recommendations regarding general communications/marketing efforts for the Center and helps to maintain the Center's website. Recommends stories, social media planning, and referrals for interviews.

20% Within an academic department / school / college, provides and makes recommendations for the improvement of Department / School / College Policies. Advises chairs / deans on the formulation of department / school / college policy on areas needing clarification and identifying solutions; analyzes the consequences of organization's academic policies: recommends new or changed policies; and recommends solutions to organization's problems without precedent. This position works closely with the SCET Director of Operations and Chief Learning Officer on determining course offerings based on budget and course evaluations. Coordinates academic class scheduling. Reviews course requirements and student course progression and advises department on scheduling needs. Ensures avoidance of class conflicts; makes changes to classes based on academic and instructor need. Schedules one-time class events. Facilitates new course approval through interaction with the Coordination of College Policy, Academic Senate, or similar organization. Reviews student eligibility for Certificate, reviews petitions, processes and sends Certificates, tracks Certificate awardees, recommends process improvements.

10% Manages hiring for large student assistant population for the Center and supervises student staff. As programs continue to grow position may supervise staff.
Serves as point of contact for ASE and student assistants supporting SCET academic programs by managing, recruitment, hiring, training, serving as a resource, and reviews. Supervises Center student intern team and supports Director of Operations with managing general operations for the Center.
Advises program managers on student employment policy and procedures including payroll, eligibility, and complex visa and immigration situations. Develops programs and workshops to meet specific needs of all student employees inclusive of students engaged in Center operations, course support and research.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability in problem identification and reasoning; ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, persuasion, leadership.
  • Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences.
  • Multicultural competencies; ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Advanced knowledge of complex visa and immigration policies, procedures and regulatory requirements for international students and scholars.
  • In-depth knowledge of the field's post-degree employment opportunities and practices.
  • Skills in project management, social perceptiveness to be aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.

  • The salary range designated for this position: $78,000; however, starting salary will be commensurate with experience.
