Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking a Director of Recruiting Communications who will work within the department's Football unit.



The Director, Recruiting Communications manages all areas of recruiting and oversees all football administrative recruiting duties within the Intercollegiate Athletics Department at the University of California, Berkeley. The position coordinates and implements all of the daily recruiting operational and logistical processes within the University of California Football Program. The position reports to the Assistant AD, Football Administration.
  • Oversee the daily student-athlete recruiting operational and logistical processes for the Football team.
  • In conjunction with department Recruitment & Eligibility Coordinator, ensure all team recruiting activities are in compliance with NCAA & Pac-12 regulations.
  • Plan and executes Football team's 75-week recruiting calendar, which includes mailings, videos, graphics, and social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). Includes organizing the correspondence and outreach to prospective student-athlete for Football team.
  • Monitor Campus, NCAA, and Pac-12 legislation changes. Provide updates to coaches and staff on Campus and/or NCAA recruiting/admission policies.
  • Plan and coordinate official visits for team - itineraries, travel, hotel, hosts, meals, comp tickets, and set up meetings with Campus staff (academic advisors, faculty, etc.). Responsible for the completion and submission of all required paperwork and expense reports related to visits.
  • Responsible for updating the Football recruiting database (JumpForward) - ensure entries are correct, entered in a timely fashion, monitor number of contacts and evaluations from coaching staff, and resolve any questions or issues that arise.
  • Along with Compliance staff, will be involved in transcript process for Football recruits - obtaining, evaluating, and filing.
  • Work with Recruiting & Eligibility Coordinator to manage and implement events to enhance recruitment and yield, including Cal Day and multi-sport Junior Days, diversity initiative events, mentoring programs, electronic communications, and similar activities.
  • Supervise recruiting assistants and student workers.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training/experience.
  • Previous experience within recruiting or admissions on a Division I campus, preferably within an Intercollegiate Athletics department.
  • Thorough knowledge of program activity and best practices.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to multi-task and work with frequent interruptions.
  • Effective oral and written communication and listening skills.
  • Must be proficient in use of FileMaker, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word), and common desktop/web applications.
  • Effective customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the development and management of social media campaigns on multiple platforms.
  • Working knowledge of NCAA Division I initial eligibility and recruiting rules and Pac-12 rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Experience with evaluating transcripts for NCAA initial and transfer eligibility and admissions requirements.
  • Working knowledge of University of California admissions requirements.
