UNAVCO seeks an experienced System Administrator for the maintenance, operation, and planning of enterprise technical systems including, but not limited to, network servers, infrastructure applications, data storage services, network operating systems, enterprise imaging, data backup and recovery systems, and data access security. The incumbent will work with other system administrators to migrate current applications into the cloud by participating in or leading the building of technology roadmaps including architecture, design, and implementation planning needed to move operational environments and networks into the commercial or private cloud environment.

UNAVCO, is a Boulder, Colorado based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, university governed consortium that facilitates geoscience research and education using geodesy. UNAVCO maintains and operates the Geodetic Facility for the Advancement of Geoscience (GAGE) which provides support to the National Science Foundation (NSF) investigator community for geodesy, Earth Sciences research, education and workforce development with broad societal benefits. As part of GAGE, UNAVCO operates a large network of geodetic instruments (primarily GNSS) and a world class data facility and archive. The Systems Administrator will have experience in building and deploying operational environments and networks into commercial cloud environments. They will need network administration experience working with VPNs and building secure networks in the cloud, configuring connectivity between local networks and the cloud environment and keeping internal networks and internal cloud environments secure from external connections. The successful candidate must be willing to learn how to deploy and support open source and commercial software packages within the cloud and local data center. These applications range from service-like applications like Confluence to infrastructure-like applications like Kubernetes and Docker-Compose. They will work with developers to setup cloud environments and deploy applications they develop. This position will also work with system administrators from the Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS) for colocation support.

Required Skills: Knowledge of containers and development experience in Linux like operating system is required, Must be knowledgeable or willing to learn tools such as Kubernetes and Rancher, Proficiency in performing a wide range of tasks, from end user support to back-end server/network architecture projects, Competency with a programming language (e.g. C/C++, Java, Perl, Python).
