CISP International Education Advisor

Position Description: This Advisor/Designated School Official (DSO) position’s primary responsibilities include providing support to international students and scholars in academic, social, and immigration matters. Responsible for providing F-1 student visa advising services, orientation, trainings, and implementing retention strategies and programming to meet the needs of the international student population. This position problem solves a variety of complex issues requiring considerable knowledge of F-1 student visa rules and regulations. Incumbents work independently and with others in the Office of International Student Services and across the College, with decisions impacting students’ educational goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

 • Master’s degree and one year of experience in higher education advising university/college students on U.S. federal immigration rules and regulations or international education services at the collegiate level.
• 3-5 years of experience at U.S. Higher Education Institutions
• Must be U.S. citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident – must meet DHS/DOS criteria as ARO/DSO.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Student Development, Higher Education Management, Education, Educational Leadership, International Relations, or other closely related fields.
• 3-5 years working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) in regards to B, F, J and other visas. Experience in processing nonimmigrant visa document and fulfilling SEVIS (Student Exchange Visitor Information System) reporting requirements set by the Department of Homeland Security. Has a working knowledge of visa requirements and processing guidelines set by the Department of State.
• Experience with SEVIS and with SEVIS Help Desk to resolve issues.
• Previous experience with event planning.
• Knowledge of SLATE and/or other CRM
• Experience in International Admissions
• NAFSA member and/or professional training through NAFSA.
