Job Description:

The UF/IFAS Extension Family Nutrition Program (FNP) is seeking an evaluation scientist with strong study design, data collection, and analytical research skills in quantitative and survey research to guide evaluation of SNAP-Education activities in Florida. The Evaluation Coordinator will assess statewide needs and determine evaluation priorities for a multi-million-dollar federal grant. They serve as leader of the FNP evaluation and data team and will coordinate efforts to enhance implementation and expand the evidence-base for SNAP-Ed. Join us to create a healthier Florida!

What is SNAP-Ed

SNAP-Ed (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program - Education) is a federally funded grant program that teaches people how to eat healthy on a budget and be more physically active to reduce the risk of obesity and chronic disease.

  • The UF/IFAS Extension Family Nutrition Program (FNP), has been providing SNAP-Ed in Florida since 1996
  • Funding comes from the USDA through the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF)
  • We teach nutrition education classes where people normally gather, such as schools, community centers, libraries and churches
  • Our dedicated regional public health and food systems staff work to impact policies, systems and environments to support healthy changes in our communities.

The Opportunity

You will serve as a subject matter expert and lead evaluation scientist for a statewide nutrition and obesity-prevention program, leading a team of talented professionals to measure the impact of SNAP-Ed in Florida.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Lead a small but dynamic team of evaluation and data management professionals, including hiring, training, coordination and coaching of staff
  • Provide leadership for evaluation projects that assess behavior change by program participants
  • Develop annual management plan and annual operating budget for the Evaluation/Data Management team
  • Support capacity for high-quality data collection through development of trainings and instructional materials
  • Represent FNP in regional or national evaluation workgroups
  • Serve as an administrator and point of contact for the data management system (PEARS), including serving on the multi-state PEARS Advisory Committee
  • Coordinate the preparation of quarterly, annual, and other reports
  • Serve as PI-proxy for all FNP IRB protocols and submit revisions and new protocols as needed
  • When COVID-19 related travel restrictions are lifted: Travel to counties as needed to collect data, meet with stakeholders, observe programmatic implementation and evaluation, train or meet with staff, attend conferences and trainings

The FNP state office is located at UF’s East Campus on Waldo Road in Gainesville, FL. Due to COVID-19, all staff are working from home until at least June 30, 2021. The position has flexibility to permanently work from home but must be able to visit the office for in-person meetings as requested by the supervisor. It is preferred that they are local to North Central Florida. All of this position’s direct reports will likely work exclusively from home and supervision would be conducted remotely.

Expected Salary:

$59,300 to $66,500 annually, commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in public health, evaluation science, statistics or related field
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience in program planning and evaluation
  • Experience with grant-funded programs and/or working with government agencies
  • Proven success managing projects and overseeing the timely completion of work plans and reports
  • Proficiency working with quantitative and qualitative data, including use of statistical software such as SPSS, SAS, and/or R
  • Experience developing and maintaining surveys in Qualtrics software
