The Department of Surgery is currently seeking a Research Associate 2. The Research Associate 2, SOM contributes to the University’s research activities under the supervision of senior staff. Moreover, the incumbent understands, interprets, and complies with research policies and protocols.

The Research Associate will understand and interpret research protocols and procedures pertaining to the maintenance of rodent colony, genotyping and other related tasks in the laboratory. The Research Associate will work under the direction of a principal investigator, program director or designee of the principal investigator or program director, such as a Sr. Research Associate or above. Appointees will contribute to basic and applied research activities, participate in the publication of significant results, and advance their expertise through education, training and/or research experience. Appointees are not expected to write extramural proposals nor independently to gain such support. Performs other duties as assigned.

Performs specialized and complex experiments/studies. Participates in the publication of significant research results. Advances expertise through education, training, and research. Writes extramural grants/proposals to gain support when appropriate. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens and tissue cultures. Weighs and anesthetizes laboratory animals for experiments. Operates sensitive and highly complex laboratory equipment. Performs calculations to complete research test results. Performs photography and dark room processing. Participates in training sessions and workshops. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

The minimum qualifications for this position are as follows: Bachelor's degree is required. Two years of research related experience.
