Position Summary::

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College seeks an experienced and proven academic leader to serve as the Dean of Technical Programs. The Dean reports to the Academic Vice President and leads a diversity of technical programs in the areas of Automotive, Business, Engineering, Construction, Graphic Design, Manufacturing, Machining and Welding. The Dean is responsible for direct supervision of technical program chairs on multiple campuses and manages a multi-million-dollar budget.

We are seeking a seasoned professional with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a dean or program chair. The Dean will have a significant role in planning, constructing and programming of the expansion of our North Campus for technical program facilities. Funded through a $45 million local bond, the new Technical Education Complex will house our expanded Automotive, Machining, Welding, and Arts programs. The successful candidate will have experience in the development and deployment of technical programs and innovative facility development.

The Dean is expected to be heavily involved with the college’s business and industry partners, as well as our local high school career and technical education programs. The candidate is expected to have business acumen, be energetic and engaged in the community, and have experience with strategic planning and execution. This position is a key component of the college’s academic administration and, as such, requires candidates with relevant academic preparation, a proven track record of success in community college program management, and demonstrated successful leadership of faculty and staff.

Duty and Responsibility::

Leadership
•Facilitate strategic planning and supervise the preparation of the College educational master plan for areas of responsibility.
•Develop and evaluating department goals and objectives.
•Plan, develop, and implement innovative programs to provide a rich and supportive student-learning environment.
•Facilitate program growth and improvement.
•Plan, develop, and implement innovative partnerships with business and industry in the community to foster a supportive economic development environment, including contract and community education.
•Assess community needs and develop partnerships and other collaborative relationships with business/industry, government agencies, high schools, college, universities and other entities.
•Lead faculty to conduct institutional research and evaluation of student outcomes.
•Recommend initiatives to promote student success and continually improve the division’s programs.
•Represent the department at college functions and activities and attend graduation events.
•Administer program planning and enrollment management processes to effectively and efficiently meet student and community needs.
•Align programs with the requirements of SACSCOC, State or National Certification, and Licensure Requirements.
•Being aware of and contributing to the culture of the college community.
•Establish and maintains positive relationships with other divisions, departments, external agencies, and peer institutions.
•Serve on, chair, or co-chair advisory boards and/or committees as appropriate.
•Represent the College at public functions and/or in the community.
•Conduct special projects as requested by the Academic Vice President.

Duty and Responsibility::

Administrative
•Provide administrative support and direction to faculty chairs, site administrators, classified staff, and others.
•Manage the efforts of Program Chairs or Program Directors in developing, coordinating, and evaluating all aspects of the curriculum program areas.
•Work with faculty chairs in assignment of staff, preparation of the College catalog, class schedules, and appropriate budgets.
•Organize and conduct departmental meetings and facilitate advisory committee meetings
•Manage and provide oversight for daily operations of campus, including addressing classroom scheduling conflicts, identifying and submitting to Facilities department and/or Information Technology department any issues within the location that need repair, collaboration and cooperation for emergency operations drills, and coordination with front desk, operations backup, emergency operations for campus coverage when away.
•Ensure the college is in compliance with national, state, and local level educational program regulations and guidelines.
•Recommend and implement policies and procedures.

Personnel
•Maintaining a positive and professional climate among faculty and staff.
•Support the Academic Vice President in the selection, orientation, training, mentoring, and evaluation of full-time and part-time faculty members.
•Support the Academic Vice President in the resolution of student and personnel matters.
•Conduct annual faculty performance evaluations in an effective manner.
•Monitor the role of Cooperative Education Advisors with the Program Chair or Program Director.
•Support appropriate professional development activities.
•Assure compliance with the college’s policies and procedures.
•Review and adjust instructional loads for all program areas relative to the current load benchmarks.

The college's New and Expanding Industry Training office has earned national recognition for cooperative training efforts with area industries. Focused Industrial Training designs innovative educational programs for the service region's manufacturing sector.

An important function of the college is to provide educational programs on the pre-college level. Literacy Services offer adults the opportunity for meaningful social and occupational growth through Adult Basic Education (ABE), Human Resources Development (HRD), and the High School Equivalency Program (GED).
