Position Summary:This Research Instructor position assists in the conduct of clinical studies involving the use of investigational products and other drugs for the treatment, prevention, cure, and improved quality of life for people living HIV, COVID-19, and other infectious diseases. The sponsors of the research studies will range from the AIDS Clinical Trials Group, The HIV Prevention and Treatment Network, The COVID Vaccine Network, UNC HIV CURE Center, various Industry sponsors, and Investigator initiated trials. The medical issues involved are complex and highly technical. The position may be open to shared position between research and patient care.
Educational Requirements:The successful candidate should be a Family Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant who is licensed to practice in the State of North Carolina.
Qualifications and Experience:Specific skills in the management of clinical trials involving investigational new drugs would be extremely helpful, although not absolutely required as such skills could be accumulated on the job.
Must have clinical expertise to make minor adjustments in patient care to ensure proper compliance with study protocols, to determine protocol violations when they occur, and to make decisions regarding the accrual and termination of patients on specific research protocols.
Must be knowledgeable concerning clinical aspects of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and human immunodeficiency virus infections, and must be capable of interacting in an effective and pleasant manner with individual study patients so as to enhance their participation in research trials.
Must be able to maintain neat and orderly records.
