Job no: 499150Position SummaryAs a member of the Resource Management staff within the Office of the Provost, the Financial Accountant reports to the Director for Academic Resources. This position has the responsibility of working directly with the Colleges to effectively and responsibly manage departmental budgets and provide financial reporting oversight and analysis. The position provides administrative, financial, and accounting expertise to the office of Academic Affairs Resource Management. The incumbent will use initiative and judgment in analyzing information and determining a course of action within established procedures and guidelines. They will be responsible for communicating with associated campus offices to gather and/or relay information associated with assigned financial responsibilities. The incumbent will be responsible for in-depth knowledge of faculty appointment process, staff appointment process, accounting and purchasing procedures, a broad knowledge of PeopleSoft data, strong ability to use enrollment and institutional data to make budgetary recommendations, projections, and decisions.This position requires a high level of computer skills including Microsoft Excel skills, proficiency in Oracle and Adaptive budgeting software, as well as a high acumen for business process improvement. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, at-will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.Candidate QualificationsBachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field.Five years of progressively responsible financial accounting experienceCPA License (current)Specialized SkillsProgressive foundational knowledge of the principles of organization, administration, and management.Ability to analyze and find solutions to complex problems, work independently, communicate effectively, and write clear and concise reports.Thorough knowledge of principles, problems, and methods of budget processes including advanced fiscal management skills along with math competency and accounting background. Experience applying broad and conceptual analytical skills to resolve resource concerns, preferably in academia and/or transferrable to Academic Affairs resource management.Experience using an enterprise resource planning program for financial record-keeping, preferably Oracle Financials.Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word.Ability to effectively resolve complex problems; proactively resolve conflicts, make suggestions and ask pertinent questions to facilitate productive outcomes.Ability to accept a broad range of delegated responsibilities and organize and coordinate complex tasks while handling multiple priorities. Ability to swiftly change priorities as situations demand. Requires the ability to effectively communicate and resolve budgetary, personnel, and resource issues between the Office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean’s and Directors Offices, Human Resources, and other University Offices.Excellent written communication skills as evidenced by a thorough knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.Ability to learn and independently interpret and apply complex policies and procedures.
