As the copywriter on the University Communications and Marketing team, you will be responsible for developing and crafting engaging copy that inspires, engenders connection with the University brand, and drives action. You will embody the voice and tone of the WCU brand as you write and edit copy for marketing and brand campaigns, print collateral, posters, websites, SEO optimization, social media campaigns, video and radio scripts, alumni magazine articles, emails, direct mail, and blog posts, among other things. You are an idea generator, and enjoy working in tandem with art directors, designers, social media managers, media planners, videographers, photographers and the members of the wider communications and marketing team to create winning content. You know how to write effective copy that informs, excites, and drives engagement.
You will also be expected to have a keen attention to detail in copy editing and proofreading.
MUST INCLUDE A PORTFOLIO OR AT LEAST 5 ADVERTISING OR MARKETING WRITING SAMPLES. Please do not send in editorial copy. You can include long form copy, but please note that this position’s focus is as a marketing copywriter, we are looking for the skills to persuade, versus report.Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position:
•Write winning content that intrigues, inspires and engages audiences, while also driving results
•Effectively communicate brand messaging, positioning, and call to action to various targets, including prospect students and parents, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, key stakeholders, and the campus community
•Strong ability to write content for varying formats and audiences, adhering to best practices and standards of the individual channels while curating the copy to best connect with the audience for that channel
•Excellent ability to adapt the brand’s voice and tone to deliver on messaging goals on all marketing collateral
•Thorough understanding of how to communicate with internal teams and UCM clients to maintain and improve customer experience by drafting and editing copy to support creative and marketing efforts
•Associate degree with at least two years+ experience writing and editing marketing copyPreferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s Degree in English, Journalism, or Marketing and at least five (5) years’ experience writing and editing marketing copy
•Advertising agency experience a plus
•Experience in the education industry and developing content for large campaigns
•Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects based on business-critical needs and meet deadlines
•Experience in digital content creation for online experiences, websites, and other digital media leveraging catchy headlines, implementing linking strategies, and optimizing writing to drive clicks and conversions
•Excellent writing and editing skills, including knowledge and adaptability of various editorial style guides and tones (where necessary), as well as writing compelling long and short form content
•Strong collaboration skills, as well as ability to work independently
•Ability to consult with internal and external constituents and draw information from others
