Job Summary:

Please Note: This is an internal recruitment open to current benefits eligible Eastern Washington University employees only. Eastern Washington University is seeking a self-motivated, independent, worker for a Maintenance Custodian – Floating Schedule. This position performs custodial duties and routine maintenance work on building, facilities and equipment. This position performs work of a Custodian 1 & 2 when needed.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful candidate must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on frequent basis and carry up to 75 pounds on an occasional basis. Successful candidate must be able to pass a pre-placement physical.
  • This position, during the course of university employment will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as the unsupervised access with the developmentally disabled, vulnerable adults or children under the age of 16. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment.
  • This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of various custodial equipment.
  • Prior professional housekeeping or custodial experience.
  • Institutional or industrial custodial experience
  • Able to work overtime/extended hours on occasion.

Responsibility / Duty:

Basic Function: Perform custodial duties and routine maintenance work on buildings, facilities and equipment.
PRIMARY DUTIES FOR THIS POSITION INCLUDE:
Equipment Maintenance: Maintain and repair a variety of heavy duty floor machines such as auto scrubbers, buffers and vacuums; replace drive wheels, shafts, bearings, gears, valves and electrical switches. Oil motors and clean all terminals, maintain all equipment in the area. Organize resources to do repairs in the field whenever possible. Maintain an appropriate stock of parts in the shop to perform necessary repairs and services. Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools, buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washer, high speed buffers and vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, carpets, furniture, etc.
