Job Summary The Student Support Services Academic Counselor provides intrusive academic counseling and academic support to enrolled Student Support Services students. The Student Support Services Academic Counselor will maintain a solid caseload and assist students with all aspects of the collegiate experience, including but not limited to advising, academic support and financial aid assistance.

Responsibilities
    Assist Project Director in identifying, recruiting, and selecting students for the SSS Project.Conduct intake and needs assessments to customize services for each participant.Manage a caseload of 100 students and provide academic, financial aid, career, and transfer counseling to participants.Collaborate with College Counseling staff when participants require crisis intervention services.Provide students with other college and community referrals on an as needed basis.Coordinate services and resources for students and functions as a positive advocate for students.Monitor, evaluate and track students’ progress and maintain files and update SSS database.Conduct academic and personal development workshops, coordinate field trips to four-year colleges and cultural events.Participate in professional development activities including workshops, conventions, and other related activities.
Required Qualifications
    Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or related field required; Minimum of 2 years academic advising experience or experience working in a similar capacity in student services, preferably in a community college;Experience working with at-risk students;Experience developing and facilitating workshops for students;Demonstrated ability to compile student data for dissemination and reporting purposes;Excellent oral, written, listening, and organizational skills;And the ability to work independently and as the member of a team.Individuals with similar backgrounds as project participants will be highly preferred.

    Strong oral and written communication skills and good listening skill. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.
