Physical Requirements:Sitting/standing for long periods of time; lifting boxes up to 30 lbs infrequently; performing repetitive motion tasks; effectively communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds; intermittent job related travel.
Shift:Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., occasional evening and weekend events
Job Summary:This position promotes the mission of the University Press, the University, and the consortium by promoting books through direct marketing, advertising, and publicity. The person in this role contributes directly to the sales and review success of books produced and distributed by the scholarly publisher for the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Responsibilities include publicizing approximately 50 new titles per year; arranging author appearances; nominating books for awards; planning and executing special events; producing or overseeing production of single title and sales flyers, text adoption pitches, subject catalogs, a regional holiday mailer, and a variety of targeted mailings, including e-promotion; tracking, analyzing, and reporting on direct mail promotions; researching, planning, designing, and placing advertisements for 50+ books a year in magazines, in academic journals, online, via social media, and via radio; building in-house mail and email lists designed to increase promotion, course adoption, and overall sales for the University Press; leading communications with community via social networking tools; and keeping abreast of electronic marketing trends and suggesting changes and new initiatives.
This position also recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates direct reports (student interns, P/T and temporary staff, contract workers), and indirectly supervises the Marketing Assistant.
