Job Description Summary

Skilled laboratory technicians that works with complex systems or perform highly technical mechanical or diagnostic tests in medical or scientific laboratories. Assists the laboratory manager to perform complex laboratory maintenance tasks and other laboratory projects, as assigned. Will assists senior level researchers on various supervised research projects within the lab. The technician will carry out routine tasks such as preparation of media and reagents, place orders for supplies, help maintain inventory and place lab equipment in their designated areas at the end of the day. He/she will gather data from experiments, complete data entry and analyze data in collaboration with Principal Investigators and postdoctoral researchers - with the intent of presenting research results in laboratory meetings.

The incumbent will utilize knowledge of cell biology, microfabrication, and microfluidics to participate in highly varied interdisciplinary research projects at the interface of material science, human microphysiological systems, micro nano-fabrication and automation robotics to produce high impact research.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 0-1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Position contingent upon funding.

Working Conditions
Office, library, computer room; Requires extensive safety training; Requires protective devices

Physical Effort
Typically sitting at a desk or table; Occasional lifting 25 lb.

Microfluidic cell culture and analysis; collaborating with graduate students and post-docs in the group, culture, differentiate, maintain, and analyze various types of human cells grown in microengineered devices

Design and development of robotic platforms and their control systems: collaborating with graduate students in the group, design and create blueprints for key components of the instruments; assembly and operation of high performance robots capable of liquid handling

Micro and nano fabrication via clean room techniques and soft lithography: fabrication of microfluidic templates and devices in photoresists and PDMS using soft lithography and photolithographic techniques

Electronic circuit design and prototyping: collaborating with graduate students in the group design and construction of electronic circuits for control and maintenance of cell culture platforms. This will involve circuit/PCB design, power electronics and motor control.
