Your opportunity:

As an integral member of the finance team, you will perform a variety of functions that are essential to the financial management, particularly in the areas of planning and budgeting, financial analyses and financial control. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, you will be analyzing information and making recommendations to inform budgetary decision making, forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budget with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries, developing and implementing financial procedures and control mechanism and implementing plans and process improvements for financial administration activities. As a subject matter professional, you will be providing advice and data to support the development of business cases and analytics for departmental initiatives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making and policy changes
  • Analyzing financial processes and procedures and recommending changes for improvement
  • Verifying that all accounts payable and receivable activities have been accurately processed
  • Verifying the accuracy and completeness of information
  • Maintaining contracts and financial database
  • Identifying and analyzing data discrepancies and taking necessary actions to correct errors
  • Researching, analyzing and recommending potential changes to system features
  • Advising staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures

Essential Qualifications:

  • University degree in Business or Commerce; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. A recognized accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) preferred
  • Minimum five (5) years of related experience in financial accounting, reporting, modeling, costing, budgeting and analysis is required
  • Strong financial modeling, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex accounting principles
  • A thorough understanding of self-funded business operations
  • Highly detail oriented, excellent judgment, initiative and decision-making skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • An ability to organize, work well under pressure and execute a wide variety of complex projects simultaneously and to manage conflicting priorities within required timelines
  • Ability to work effectively independently and as an integral member of a team
  • Very strong customer service orientation and has the highest degree of integrity and commitment to confidentiality
