The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Allergy & Immunology has an opening for a part-time Adjunct Assistant Professor position. 

Nature of Work: 

  • This .30 FTE position will develop the food oral immunotherapy (OIT) program, including education for our physicians, advanced practice providers and nurses on how to safely perform OIT; develop policies and procedures, the OIT protocols, consent forms, family education forms, follow up forms and reaction forms; coordinate the evaluation/implementation and research related to the OIT unit, which may include, but not necessarily be limited to, the development of patient-reported outcomes tools, use of OIT with biologics or probiotics, family/physician implementation outcomes, long-term safety data, desensitization and sustained unresponsiveness data, and the role of OIT in modulating immune pathways, all with ensuring ongoing quality improvement; and supervise resident and fellowship research projects related to OIT and participate in the teaching of post-graduate students regarding OIT.
  • The candidate will assist in establishing a beta-lactam (along with other antibiotics) allergy de-labeling program within the hospital, and in collaboration with primary care providers longer-term within the community as well; assist in training related to drug allergy and drug allergy de-labeling as well as developing the tools required for a de-labeling program, such as protocols and consent forms; collaborate with funded networks studying drug allergy with a focus on de-labeling; participate in cost-effectiveness analysis related to de-labeling beta-lactam allergy; and lead and collaborate in knowledge synthesis and translation efforts related to drug allergy and drug allergy de-labeling initiatives.

Position Emphasis:

Food Immunotherapy:

  • Development of protocols for the various foods for administration
  • Development of hospital policies and procedures
  • Provide oversight of the food IT program
  • Provide education for the nurses, medical providers, and schedulers for management of these patients
  • Track and review side effects and safety outcomes to ensure ongoing quality improvement
  • Collaborate with the food allergy immunotherapy industry trials and the food allergy immunotherapy clinical program; analyze data, prepare and submit manuscripts describing the main findings of clinical studies
  • Work with trainees on research related to food OIT
Drug Allergy:

  • Assist with the current beta-lactam de-labelling program to expand it beyond the current status, both inpatient and outpatient, such as with PCP education and referral programs
  • Develop protocols and forms for the program, including desensitization protocols
  • Develop collaborations internally with other sections, such as the Antibiotic Stewardship Program within the hospital, and nationally
  • Provide education for the nurses, medical providers, and schedulers for management of these patients
  • Track and review side effects and safety outcomes to ensure ongoing quality improvement
  • Develop translational efforts for research and publication of data
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring rate (or budgeted rate) for this position has been established at $49,500.

The above salary rate represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation

Qualifications
Minimum  Qualifications:

  • Experience in building a food OIT program
  • Experience in drug de-labeling protocols and comprehensive drug allergy program
  • Experience in supervising and teaching trainees
  • MD or DO required
Conditions of Employment:

  • Must successfully pass a drug test through Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • Must be willing and able to pass a national criminal background check
Preferred Qualfications:

  • Experience in performing food immunotherapy in clinical practice and/or through clinical trials
  • Knowledge in identifying the risks, side effects, and allergic reactions that can come with various forms of food immunotherapy
  • Experience with performing food and drug challenges, both clinically and in research
  • Experience in performing drug desensitization
  • Sustained peer-reviewed publication history

  • Excellent ability to understand and utilize knowledge of food and drug allergies
  • Knowledge and ability to provide expert oversight and medical management of children with complex allergic and immunologic diseases who often have other significant medical issues
