The Department of Neurology has an ongoing need for Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants) with strong values and unique skills for several of our specialties. This position will provide both acute and chronic direct outpatient care to Neurologic patients. Successful candidates will have a proven record of accomplishment in supporting the needs of patients, developing differential diagnoses, and prescribing treatments in collaboration with leading specialty providers. We are seeking individuals who are collaborative, communicative, proactive, caring, detail-oriented, organized, able to think critically, focused on quality, and dedicated to personal growth.

The position is located at the Anschutz Medical Campus.  Hours will vary depending on clinical schedules and department/hospital needs. We are the premier research university in Colorado, serving more than 30,000 undergraduate, graduate and health professions students in Denver, Aurora and online and awarding nearly 4,000 degrees each year.  The renowned researchers and award-winning faculty offer more than 100-degree programs through 13 colleges and schools. In 2008, the University was awarded more than $371 million in research grants and contracts. The Anschutz Medical Campus includes over 5 million square feet of research, educational and clinical space on 227 acres.

Specialty

This APP will work in the Epilepsy Section, which currently has 11 Epileptologists and 5 APPs.  The section is expanding into other areas within the Denver metro area. The Epilepsy Section runs various clinics including the Epilepsy pregnancy clinic, Tuberous Sclerosis clinic, Non-Epileptic Seizure clinic, Neuro-feedback clinic, Diet clinic, Neuro-modulation clinic, Pre-surgery clinic, Surgery clinic, and Tele-epilepsy.  The Epileptologists and Epilepsy APPs also take turns and are responsible for staffing the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).  All of these activities take place at UCHealth.

Examples of Work Performed

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    Screen, evaluate, diagnose, manage medications, and provide disease counseling
  • Acute and chronic outpatient care of patients with neurological disease including symptomatic therapy, disease-modifying therapy, and health maintenance care
  • Serves as the first contact for clinician level patient communicationsEngage in collaborative team-based care to make informed decisions for patient careSupport and engage in continual learning and development among nursing staff, physician assistants, pharmacy staff, medical students, and neurology residentsPeriodic educational presentation of lectures to patients and others
Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at the following range:

Instructor $80,000 -$105,000

Sr. Instructor $90,000 -$112,000

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

Instructor

  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Degree
  • License to practice in Colorado or ability to obtain a license to practice in Colorado
  • Experience and desire to work with patients with chronic, and sometimes severe illness
  • Senior Instructor:

  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Degree
  • License to practice in Colorado or ability to obtain a license to practice in Colorado
  • Experience and desire to work with patients with chronic, and sometimes severe illness
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Significant experience working with neurological patients and/or experience in the management of chronic diseases in a subspecialty environment
    • Background in neuroscience
    • Experience working in a primary care medicine setting
    • Experience completing documentation and performing tasks routinely assigned in hospital settings using hospital record systems (e.g., Epic and Oncore)
    • Knowledge of University of Colorado Health Hospitals
