Job Description

Incumbent is responsible for institutional support of compliance with federal, state and local regulations pertaining to environmental, health and workplace safety related areas. The position is responsible for supporting programs such as chemical and hazardous materials management, regulated wastes, laboratory safety, OSHA health and safety programs, incident management and investigation, emergency management, safety training, and safety inspections.

Incumbent will also serve as a liaison with the Purchasing Department for associated compliance of policies and practices in support of the health and safety for all CSN faculty, staff, students and community members. Responsibilities include but not limited to researching appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards, identifying potential suppliers who can provide compliant and appropriate PPE, gathering pricing proposals and comparing for best value, and tracking orders in support of the College's preparedness and safeguarding of individuals. The incumbent will also be responsible for managing the tracking and distribution of the College's PPE inventory to departments. To accomplish these complex duties, the incumbent shall be responsible for developing effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders as well as counterparts at other NSHE institutions.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental health or physical/biological sciences, or safety or related field and 1 years of related professional experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certification by a safety or health-related organization.
  • Knowledge of work place safety, health, and environmental laws and regulations, e.g., OSHA, DOL, EPA, DOT
  • Knowledge of health and safety resources, e.g., National Safety Council, NIOSH, NFPA, ASSP
  • Skills in communicating effectively with and providing institutional liaison to regulatory agencies/inspectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals in a manner that contributes to building and maintaining an effective and cohesive work team.
