Position Summary:

Based at the University of California, Irvine (UCI), Community Resilience is a unit within the UCI Office of Sustainability. Community Resilience brings together teams of faculty, students, staff, and community collaborators to address environmental, health, and social justice challenges by fostering community-driven and equity-focused solutions. Current projects support research, education, and training to bolster local worker cooperative and urban farming ecosystems; local youth-led investigation of levels of lead in the soil; local health equity-focused COVID-19 response capacity; statewide & campus participatory action research teams for community-driven climate resilience; national legal educational support to low-income communities and communities of color that are in transition from extraction-based economies to regenerative economies; and international human rights and environmental protection. Community Resilience relies on a nimble team that includes over twenty community partners and university counterparts as well as student fellows, visiting community scholars, popular education training partners, and a small staff.

The Community Resilience Project Manager represents the Department in community-driven collaborative research, education, training, and service projects with campus (faculty, staff, students) and external stakeholders. Infuses role with insight from lived experience and/or community-engaged scholarship in Department issue areas (see Department Overview above). Accountable for project management and coordination. Initiates processes in areas such as digital communications, graphic design, research and writing, stakeholder management, workshop production, meeting design and facilitation. Uses advanced operational concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Primarily deals with programs and proposals with broad impact across the organization. Develops and implements new projects and processes.

Compensation Range:

Monthly: $5,825.00 - $7,913.13. **Please note monthly salary listed is at 100%, this contract position is 50%.

At least 5-7 years of experience in the fields of environmental, health and/or social justice research, education, advocacy, and/or community organizing.

At least 5-7 years of project management experience with project stakeholders from a variety of social, economic, educational, and cultural backgrounds.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Advanced project management skills. Advanced analytical / problem-solving skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.

Advanced experience working with low-income communities and communities of color on environmental, health, and/or social justice issues.

Ability to notice and seek balance when multi-tasking within demanding timeframes.

Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.


Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.

Advanced knowledge of applicable policy analysis techniques. Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-, and online teaching-specific and other computer application programs.

Graphic design and data visualization skills.

Spanish language fluency.

Special Conditions Required:

Some activities on weekends and evenings required.

Some travel within California required.
