Position Summary: The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is responsible for supporting the IT needs of UC Irvine faculty, students, and staff. Our mission is to provide information technology leadership, services, and innovative solutions to promote the research, education and community service goals of the University. OIT Project Management Office provides leadership and coordination of large cross-functional projects. Also develop and continually enhance project management guidelines and tools and educate project leaders throughout the university on utilizing project management best practices.Under the general supervision of the PMO Lead/Cloud Migration Architect, the Project Manager applies skills as a seasoned, experienced technical project management professional with a full understanding of project management frameworks and methods, relevant policies and procedures to resolve a wide range of issues. Demonstrates competency in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Manages projects of diverse scope, size, impact, budget, and / or project team size. Responsible for the IT project plan, project schedule, budget, scope, status, requirements analysis, and issue management of the development and implementation of assigned projects. The incumbent serves as a single point of contact for large-scale, highly technical projects, coordinates meetings, drives tasks, and tracks and reports on project status, risks, and issues. The incumbent is accountable for capturing, compiling, tracking, managing, documenting, communicating and escalating status, issues, and risks. Additionally, as member of UCI OIT's Project Manager Office (PMO), the candidate will help shape how the PMO serves the campus. This effort includes development of the PMO policies, document templates, and tools that define OIT's project management life cycle.   • Five (5) years of direct IT management related work experience.
  • Five (5) to ten (10) years relevant experience with BA/BS in related field, or three (3) to five (5) years relevant experience with MA/MS in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience in Project Management in an IT environment.
  • Requires effective communication and organization skills.
  • Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Requires ability to assess campus, medical center or Office of the President needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs.
  • Working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to anticipate obstacles and plan for contingencies.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to determine relevance and prioritize tasks.
  • Demonstrated advanced organization and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated effective writing skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in selecting and implementing project management methods and techniques.
  • Broad knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives.
  • Knowledge of most aspects of computing and communications including hardware infrastructure, networking, software, operations and disaster recovery.
  • Proven leadership ability.
  • Effective problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to put forth persuasive arguments.
  • Effective skill at tracking effort and project progress.
  • Requires ability to manage projects of diverse scope, size, impact, budget and / or project team size.
  • Experience executing various Software/System Development Life Cycle processes (SDLC) including Waterfall and agile project management methodologies and techniques.
  • Expertise and strong ability to build project plans, establish project timeline, milestone, and deliverables.
  • Expertise collecting project status, updating project schedule and publishing project status summaries.
  • Expertise to identify, document, manage and resolve project issues and risks.
  • Experience managing multiple projects or large enterprise project with complex interdependencies.
  • Strong ability to facilitating meetings with cross-functional (technical and business users) teams.
  • Experience with requirements gathering, analysis and design, development tools and technologies, release and version control, contemporary testing methodologies, and deployment management.
  • Solid understanding of business or technical process changes, implementations, and deployments.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully collaborate with a broad range of personnel at all levels across the campus and with varying level of technical knowledge and/or project management concepts.
  • Oral communication and presentation skills sufficient to explain business needs to technical personnel and technical information to business users.
  • Ability to work effectively with external vendors and all levels of technical staff, management, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent team player with a proven track record of working across a large distributed enterprise and a highly collaborative environment.
Preferred:
  • Relevant project management certifications (e.g., PMP, SCRUM) preferred or the ability to gain a certification.
  • Experience with vendor software implementation, negotiation of contracts, and SOWs.
  • Knowledge of UC Irvine systems, policies and procedures. Knowledge of ITIL and ITSM solutions.
  • Software development, vendor system, or infrastructure implementation experience.
  • Familiarity with web development and programming languages i.e. Java, .NET, PHP, XML, Perl and HTML.
