Educational Coordinator, School of Medicine - Georgetown University Medical Center

Georgetown University's Office of Medical Education (OEM) serves as the central office responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and advancement of the M.D. degree program curriculum. The office has direct oversight and coordination of pre-clinical education, in addition to clinical education through partnership with our affiliate clinical sites.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Curriculum Management, the Educational Coordinator, together with five other pre-clinical and clinical curricular support staff within OEM, is responsible for distributing and implementing the four-years of medical education to more than 800 medical students, in duties that include but are not limited to:

Curricular Coordination

  • Contacts assigned lecturers, negotiates curricular delivery mediums, collects handout and other curricular materials, confirms schedule dates, and reviews conflicts within the broader curriculum.
  • Coordinates, prepares, proofs, and posts syllabus and course materials.
  • Provides assistance to module/course director(s) with logistical planning of lectures, assignments, due dates, and evaluations.
  • Advises module/course director of OME and GUSOM policies.
  • Assists with lecture set up, as necessary.
  • Creates small group assignments, reserves rooms as needed, coordinates AV requests and supplies for small group activities and labs, and keeps track of attendance and grade impacts.
  • Corresponds with students regarding the courses, reviews, exams, and syllabus; and provides notification of any course changes.
  • Builds and maintains an LMS Site (Canvas) presence for responsible module/course.
  • Coordinates exams, including distributing and collecting questions to individual faculties, formatting and uploading to create electronic test, scheduling make-up exams, creating and announcing exam logistics, serving as team leader for exam day proctoring, scoring and submitting reports to module director for approval, posting grades, and coordinating post exam review.
  • Assists in implementation of faculty member's instructional continuity plan during campus closures and delayed arrivals.
  • Supports other curricular coordinators and courses, as needed and/or assigned by the Assistant Dean for Curriculum Management.

Committee Support

Serves as the administrative lead and/or OEM representative for designated Committee on Medical Education sub-committees, SOM working groups, and other curricular planning, evaluation, and innovation efforts.

Office Administration

Serves as one of the front-line staff in the Office of Medical Education - welcoming and triaging students, faculty, and visitors; and managing incoming phone calls, accepting mail and fax communications, maintaining equipment, and updating/stocking curricular forms and other supplies.

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Familiarity with a professional setting and comfortable learning and exploring new software/equipment and curricular facilitation tools
  • Team player skilled in communication, organization, and time management
  • Ability to follow through on assignments and responsibilities with minimal oversight

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience and/or degree in curriculum, learning, and project/program management or similar
  • Experience working with educators, learners, and education support staff
  • Experience in customer service, coordination, Canvas (or other LMS), and medical education
