Summary of Duties:

The Clark County SNAP-Ed Extension Coordinator is responsible for leading the development and implementation of culturally sensitive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) nutrition education and policy, systems and environmental (PSE) and obesity prevention programming and public health approaches for low-income and/or qualifying audiences in Clark County. In the design of curriculum, the Extension Coordinator must conduct community needs assessments, adhere to SNAP-Ed guidelines, and consult with agencies and groups within the community to originate nutrition education systems tailored to the community. The Extension Coordinator leads, trains, and mentors volunteers and contract staff in organizing, conducting and coordinating Extension programs, and advising clients on the application of program information. The Extension Coordinator organizes, conducts, coordinates, monitors, evaluates, and reports on program activities related to PSE strategies and School Wellness and Farmers Market direct education. The Extension Coordinator reports directly to the SNAP-Ed Program Manager, works closely with other Extension staff, SNAP-Ed staff and community partners to ensure that activities meet community needs and are appropriate within FNS guidance for SNAP-Ed programs. The position contributes to local, University, state and national recognition of WSU Extension and the SNAP-Ed as an essential nutrition education resource and contributes to the recognition of WSU as a premier Land- Grant University.

This is a temporary position expected to end on 9/30/2021. Renewal is dependent on satisfactory performance and annual background check, the need for Extension to complete the project and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Washington State Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel within targeted counties.
  • While using a private or WSU-owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090).
  • Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.
  • Employment is contingent upon passing an annual background screening.

  • Experience working with Bilingual/Bi-cultural youth and adults outside the dominant culture.
