Job Description Summary
The Application Developer will be responsible for developing an interactive, natural language processing application for identifying patients that meet a cohort definition using a variety of computational methods including artificial intelligence, machine learning, and ontologies for clinical data. They will develop and implement NLP algorithms for encoding clinical variables and classifying patients according to phenotypes. Will work alongside other students and postdocs in the Semantic Analysis of Text to Inform Clinical Action (SemAnTICA) as well as collaborate with members of the Clinical Research Informatics Core (CIC).

POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON GRANT FUNDING
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the principal investigator and team members in the definition of the application project
- Independently designs, implements, tests, deploys and maintains NLP application and features of each application project
- Work with investigators and team members to apply NLP/AI methods to clinical data
- Create and maintain documentation for all applications projects. Instruct others in laboratory on the functionality of the new applications. Code will be well documented and self-documented.
- Additional duties as necessary, e.g., help write manuscript for dissemination
QUALIFICATIONS: (Qualifications should clearly indicate those that are required and those that are preferred.)
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science AND 3-5 years of computer programming experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Experience with natural language processing and/or ontologies
- Experience with artificial intelligence or machine learning
- Experience with deep learning a plus
- Experience with data science a plus
- Experience with clinical data a plus
- Experience with several programming languages including Java and Python
- Experience with other programming languages - JavaScript and/or Perl - a plus
- Experience with Linux, Windows, Mac OS operating systems
- Experience with reading/writing XML
- Ability to work with a software development team using formal software development methods
- Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members
