The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the “go-to” organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Continuation of all GTP positions is contingent upon funding.

Job Description

We are seeking a Coordinator, Human Resources to play a vital role in executing the processes and initiatives of the Human Resources Operations team. The Human Resources Operations Team is responsible for providing support to HR Leadership, the Talent Acquisition Team, the Talent Development team, and the greater organization through a variety of workflows: hiring, onboarding/offboarding, scheduling, record maintenance/tracking, and coordination around HR-related staff needs such as benefits and immigration.

Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Coordinator will have a broad variety of workflows to execute on to provide seamless HR service to the organization. The Coordinator will be part of a team responsible for all transactional activities related to the HR functions of on-boarding and off-boarding of staff, faculty, student and temporary workers. Responsibilities also include supporting the Talent Acquisition and Talent Development teams to ensure all transactions related to compliance and proper documentation are completed both in WorkDay, Penn's system of record, as well as filed and documented appropriately in the GTP share drives.

This role requires the Coordinator to command a variety of resources to effectively impact a large volume of tasks with an attention to detail and a customer service mindset. This role supports a multi-site, 300+ FTE sponsored research organization.


  • The minimum of a High School diploma and 5 years of administrative experience within a human resources department or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. College degree or coursework in Human Resources or related field preferred.
  • Needs Driven: ability to anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of the department and external clients to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain composure in order to effectively handle sensitive employee issues.
  • Proven time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work well under pressure in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills; Strong sense of urgency in escalating critical issues.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office skills are a MUST including MS Word, Excel, Outlook. Experience in Workday preferred.
