Advertised Job Summary:

The employee will assist in ongoing research in observational extragalactic astrophysics and help develop new directions in this area. Duties will include analyzing optical/infrared/ultraviolet data (e.g. from Hubble Space Telescope, Keck telescope, Spitzer Space Telescope, and other related archival data) on quasars, galaxies, circumgalactic/intergalactic medium, and the implications of the data for galaxy evolution; helping with the preparation of new observing proposals, and obtaining the observations; and helping create and explore new research directions in astrophysical topics of mutual interest.

Required Education and Experience:

Ph.D. in astronomy/astrophysics. Research experience in extragalactic astrophysics is essential, especially experience in analyzing optical/UV/IR quasar spectra, including Echelle spectra, spectral line fitting, and photo-ionization modeling.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in designing, executing, and/or analyzing HST/Keck/Spitzer observations would be strongly beneficial. Some experience in the atomic physics relevant for astrophysical spectroscopy and/or simulations or models of galaxy evolution would be a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong skills in astronomical data analysis and modeling software. Overall strong computer skills in linux or Mac OS and computer programming (including IDL/Python).
