Advertised Job Summary:The School of the Earth, Ocean and Environment (SEOE) invites applications for an Instructor and Undergraduate Coordinator, a full-time Professional Track (non-tenure track) 12-month faculty position at the University of South Carolina. Primary duties will include teaching two courses per semester during the academic year and maintaining critical functions of our Undergraduate Office. Course assignments will depend on the expertise of the candidate and will focus on introductory courses that span Earth Science, Marine Science, and the Environment.
Undergraduate Coordinator duties will be determined in consultation with the Director of the SEOE but will include undergraduate advisement, course and curriculum assessment and revisions, and coordination of all other activities related to undergraduate studies, such as scheduling, teaching plans, recruitment, etc. The position is designed to offer opportunities for long-term employment with the university after an initial 1-year appointment, with renewal contingent upon the availability of funding, instructional needs, and satisfactory performance.
The Undergraduate Office supports more than 550 undergraduate majors in Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Geological Science, and Marine Science.
Required Education and Experience:A PhD is required at the time of appointment, with at least two years of experience in higher education related to teaching, student advising, or student services.
Preferred Qualifications:Four years of experience in higher education related to teaching, student advising, or student services.
