Position Highlights:

In this position, you will direct faculty development initiatives and needs in the clerkship and transition to residency phases of the MD program curriculum, housed within the four-year MD program. This role requires you work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders across the Office of Curricular Affairs, residents, clinical faculty, and research faculty.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct efforts to provide faculty development to faculty teaching in clinical education years of the MD program, including: clerkships, clinical electives, and transition to residency phases. Core evidence-based sessions include: setting learning expectations, giving effective feedback, teaching at the bedside (including one minute preceptor) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1495264/), and assessing medical students.
  • Liaise with Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program Directors on the Residents as Educators program. Track module usage and provide reports to Curricular Affairs, GME, and Program Directors. Understand the teaching expectations and quality in each GME program. Understand, measure and disseminate to stakeholders how the Residents as Educators initiative impacts residents attaining strong teaching skills. Engage in continuous quality improvement of the Residents as Educators program.
  • Make recommendations to the Associate Dean of Curricular Affairs on topics and methods of offering faculty development to enhance faculty experience at COM-T.
  • Continuously evaluate the impact of faculty development sessions (e.g. session evaluations, impact on teaching quality and teaching evaluations, impact on learner success).
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement of faculty development offerings to enhance faculty outcomes, including innovative evidence-based content, and effective session design that reaches faculty and improves teaching experience (e.g. in-person small group, online Zoom sessions/webinars, videos, online modules, etc.).
  • Enhance COM–T faculty development with local and national innovations and evidence-based practices through participation in committees, peer-reviewed publications, and conferences. Regularly liaise with AMES and Office of Faculty Affairs to understand faculty needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Terminal degree MD or DO.
  • Faculty appointment at the College of Medicine – Tucson.
  • Experience with student learning and assessment in clinical settings.
  • Experience with designing and implementing curricula.
  • Strong understanding of MD program policies.
  • Experience on educational program committees and on university committees.
  • 2 years’ experience in successful administration of clinical education.

Preferred Qualifications:

*5 years’ experience with program design, implementation, and continuous improvement of program quality.*Multi-year experience and/or being an educator and/or leader in clinical education.*Experience with continuous quality improvement.
