This position is classified as a 10-month full-time at-will employment appointment with administrative (30%) and coaching (teaching) (70%) responsibilities. This position is eligible to accrue sick leave at a rate of 10 hours each month, but will not accrue vacation leave. The coach will provide daily instruction to student-athletes to increase their knowledge and understanding of the sport. Provide strategic direction, leadership, and motivation to prepare student-athletes for intercollegiate competition. Plan, organize and conduct practice sessions. Educate and enforce safety rules and regulations. Plan and direct physical conditioning programs that will enable athletes to achieve maximum performance. Educate individuals or groups in rules, strategies, techniques, and principles relevant to their particular sport. Evaluate athletes' skill level and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential in a particular area of athletics. Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their sport. Ensure compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations for their respective sport program.


Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

  • Identifies and recruits prospective student-athletes in coordination with the Volleyball Head Coach.
  • Recruits prospective student-athletes, both high school and junior college, according to NCAA guidelines.
  • Responsible for recruiting student-athletes who meet the objectives of the University and the program including assessing success academically. As part of recruiting responsibilities, will travel frequently in order to evaluate the talent of prospective student-athletes and will arrange for official or unofficial visits for prospects, including their travel, lodging, meetings with academic advisors, and any other related activities.
  • Maintains accurate recruiting records consisting of contacts with student-athletes, both in person and by telephone, and also notification of official and unofficial visits.
  • Assists in the instruction of intercollegiate athletes, both during practice and competition.
  • Assists with different aspects of matches including strategies, film break- down and upload per conference requirements, video analysis, statistics, etc.
  • Maintains practice records to ensure practice limitations are adhered to according to conference and NCAA guidelines.
  • Adjusts coaching techniques based on the strengths and weaknesses of student-athletes and evaluates athletes' skills, and review performance records, in order to determine their fitness and potential in athletics.
  • Assists in implementing academic initiatives to monitor and ensure academic progress of student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, Conference and University rules.
  • Gives routine assessment and feedback to student-athletes in regard to their academic and athletic performance.
  • Attends athletic functions as required and promotes the programs to outside civic groups or organizations.
  • Solicits athletic department donors through various promotional activities sponsored by the department and sports program to supplement program's existing budget.
  • Organizes team travel to away contests, including mode of travel and lodging.
  • Assists in ordering team equipment.
  • Monitors condition of equipment and order replacements as necessary.
  • Attends coaches' preparatory meetings and implement strategies resulting from these meetings.
  • Attends conferences and seminars for current NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Communicates with Head Coach regarding prospective student-athletes; scheduling of opponents; plan, organize and conduct practice sessions; arrange and conduct sports-related activities such as camps, skill-improvement courses, clinics, and/or pre-season try-outs.
  • Works closely with NCAA Athletic Compliance staff to ensure adherence to all applicable NCAA, Conference and University regulations including assisting with educational initiatives for Volleyball staff and student-athletes.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of and adheres to applicable NCAA, Conference, University, and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Upon notification of any NCAA violation, reports the violation to the NCAA Compliance Office.
  • Also has a responsibility to follow applicable procedures and cooperate fully with any and all investigations of potential violations of NCAA, Conference, University or departmental rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

College/Department Overview:

The Athletic Department at the University of Central Oklahoma currently supports over 400 student athletes in 15 sports including Football, Men's & Women's Basketball, Men's & Women's Golf, Baseball, Softball, Wrestling, Women's Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field and Cross Country, Women's Tennis, Women's Soccer, Women's Rowing and Women's Volleyball.

Qualifications

Qualification/ Knowledge/Experience Required:

  • The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching, instructing and coaching, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Requires the application of expertise in a chosen field to achieve results.
  • Appropriate profession accomplishments and credentials.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification must be provided.

Qualification/ Knowledge/Experience Preferred:

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience as a Division I or II Volleyball Coach.
  • 5+ years of Experience
