Overview

Campus Support Services (CSS), a division of University Services, provides a broad range of event, performance, and venue support services for the Princeton University community. The Venue Services unit, within CSS, provides facility and event management for mixed-use spaces, including East Pyne, Frist Campus Center, Julis Romo Rabinowitz and Louis A. Simpson International Building, 701 Carnegie, Helm, and Overlook; supporting tenants, event presenters, users, and guests.

The Venue Operations Assistant provides a broad range of operational services for the Frist Campus Center, as well as supplemental support in other campus venues. The Assistant is part of a team of venue support staff, including professional and student workers, who provide event, technology, and customer service support. With an emphasis on AV support, the Venue Assistant is a lead specialist for video projection, live sound, and video conferencing support.

The Venue Operations Assistant provides class and event operational support. The Assistant is part of a campus-wide AV team, supporting technology in classrooms. The Assistant responds to emergency technical support requests in designated classes, provides in-class AV support, when requested, and assists with the training on technology for users. For events, the Assistant provides broad AV services, including setup and operation of audio systems, presentation systems, video simulcast and broadcast. The Assistant often serves as an operator of the AV equipment during events.

The Venue Operations Assistant provides event support, including room setups and guest services. The Assistant works closely with the venues team, student workers, and users to develop advance logistical plans for events. The Assistant ensures accurate and timely set-up and break-down of the spaces. The Assistant meets with the event lead, prior to the start time of the event, to ensure that the space setup and technology is event-ready and meets the needs of the users. The Assistant provides troubleshooting support, when issues arise, including during events, and is capable of providing resolution to issues and/or alternative options.

The Venue Operations Assistant is part of a team providing facility support for the daily operations of the Frist Campus Center. The Venue Operations Assistant assists student workers with opening and closing procedures, responds to facility issues, and provides oversight for the care and cleanliness of public spaces within the building, ensuring that public spaces are monitored and that all equipment and spaces are properly maintained. The Assistant maintains a safe venue environment and is familiar with emergency procedures.

With an emphasis on service excellence, the Venue Assistant provides exceptional support for tenants and users of the spaces and fosters excellent relationships with campus partners and service providers. The position requires the ability to interact with student workers, various colleagues and groups across campus, and the capacity to adapt to dynamic, changing situations positively and proactively.

Responsibilities

Class and event AV support in the Frist Campus Center and surrounding neighborhood

  • Provides A/V support for classes and events, including video projection, live sound, recording, and video conferencing
    • Meets with faculty and event presenters to ensure AV capabilities meet their needs
    • Assists with setups of audio and video systems
    • Trains event presenters and support on the use of systems
    • Serves as part of a cross-unit team, providing emergency troubleshooting support for classes
    • Serves as operator of audio and video systems, as needed, during classes and events

Provides facility support

  • Ensures timely and correct setup of events which occur in the Frist Campus Center
    • Assists with the overall operational needs of Frist Campus Center
    • Assists with the setup of tables, chairs, portable staging, dance floor, podiums, and easels
    • Responds to facility issues and creates any necessary work orders
    • Works with student staff, Public Safety, and other departments on opening and closing related issues

Other duties as assigned

  • Attending regular staff meetings, staff development, training
  • Staffing of overtime setups and building coverage as necessary, often occurring outside of regularly scheduled building operating hours. Departmental support of major events in other venues, including convocations.

This Assistant role is a full time, 12-month position, with a flexible schedule that is assigned primarily in the evenings and/or weekends and is based on the events and classes for that particular week. Shifts may include 10am – 6pm, 12pm – 8pm, 3pm – 11pm, 5pm – 1am, 7pm – 3am.



Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • AV skills, including working knowledge of audio and video systems
  • High School diploma and three years of experience in relevant work
  • Demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • Ability to work with a flexible schedule, including the ability to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, holidays, and long hours
  • Proficient computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working in a University environment
  • Experience working with students
  • Audio/Visual projection and presentation support
