Created in 1987, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Injury Prevention Research Center (UNC IPRC) is one of the nation’s leading university-based injury and violence prevention research centers. UNC IPRC was one of the five original injury centers supported by the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) Injury Control Research Center (ICRC). Currently, UNC IPRC is one of nine active centers in the CDC’s ICRC program and one of the few injury centers to be continuously-funded since the inception of the ICRC program, 30 years ago. The UNC IPRC’s mission is to build the field of injury and violence prevention through interdisciplinary scholarly research and by training of the next generation of injury prevention researchers and practitioners. UNC IPRC advances the field of interdisciplinary injury/violence prevention research. To ensure that science on injury/violence prevention is translated into measurable and effective prevention actions, UNC IPRC also conducts an extensive set of community-based training and outreach activities. Many of these activities are planned and implemented in collaboration with partners such as the Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB) of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Through its partnerships with IVPB and others, the UNC IPRC plays a long-term leadership role in catalyzing evidence-based injury prevention activities through training and outreach to professional, governmental, and public groups.

The position will play a key role in extending the IPRC’s reach and impact of our Outreach, Training, and Education core. This position will facilitate dissemination and implementation of evidence-based injury and violence prevention practice and policy. The Project Manager will work closely with the North Carolina Injury & Violence Prevention Branch (IVPB) to support the development of the new Comprehensive Suicide Prevention program, a five-year funded project, to increase awareness and knowledge of suicide prevention strategies and skills among injury & violence professionals across North Carolina. The Project Manager will be primarily responsible for: organizing the Injury-Free NC Academy on Suicide Prevention, convening a statewide Suicide Prevention Advisory Council to develop the NC Suicide Prevention Action Plan, and coordinating communication between partners through the development and dissemination of communication materials. The person in this role will act as a liaison between the IPRC and the IVPB on all Comprehensive Suicide Prevention Project activities.
This position will also support other activities of the Outreach, Training, and Education team, including conducting evaluations of various training & technical assistance programs; creating materials to translate IPRC-affiliated research to practice; and maintain a current and dynamic IPRC presence in our outward- and inward-facing communications and social media platforms.

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Demonstrated experience working in public health settings, preferably with state and/or local health departments. Experience in conveying clear and concise information verbally and in written form. Experience working with multiple stakeholders and coordinating their efforts and monitoring and assessing activities to make sure projects, and tasks meet project objectives and timelines. Ability to lead, consult, and/or make recommendations in the area of agency/program policy through effective communication about the project(s) or program(s). Ability to write comprehensive reports summarizing results of site visits, network meetings, and trainings; and ability to convey the major points of the report to state and local partners. Willingness and ability to travel to states within the regional network to provide technical assistance and coaching to key partners.

Master’s in Public Health, or related field. 3-5 years of experience working with injury prevention programs/projects
