Essential Job Duties:The Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) in partnership with the North Carolina Local Food Council (NCLFC), is seeking a highly-motivated recent graduate to assist the North Carolina Local Food Council with communications, lead website development and assist local foods producers with developing a communications plan.
Brief Program Overview
This is a time limited position that is grant funded and will likely only last 6 month.
As the communications assistant, the selected applicant will:
- Assist businesses with expanding their marketing and outreach strategies via internet based platforms including web site design and development, social media, digital graphics, and e-commerce
- Assist the North Carolina Local Food Council with general communications, website development and some local food marketing
- All work will be done remotely, no on-farm or on-site visitation

Minimum Experience/Education:-College or University Degree (Someone with a degree in sustainability or environmental science preferred)
Department Required Skills:-Passionate about local food systems, are hard-working, self-motivated, and have a positive attitude
-Ability to take direction, show initiative, and work well in a team as well as independently
-Good communication and organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to be flexible – to adapt to a changing work environment responding to community needs
-Experience developing online sales platforms
-Experience with WordPress and Squarespace website development
-Experience working directly with local foods producers
-Experience working directly with local foods producers
-Must be flexible and open to working with mentors, vendors, producers, CEFS staff, university/college faculty, Extension Agents and other organizations
-A background in food systems
-Skills in design and development of online digital marketing platforms
-Experience with internet based marketing strategies to expand customer base and increase revenue
-An interest in supporting marketing strategies to highlight messaging of community food systems and promotion of local foods
