This position is a three-year limited appointment position with funding only available for three years to support the University of Colorado President’s Strategic Initiative.

This position's primary role will be to manage 3 to 4 assigned projects via CU project processes and methods ensuring appropriate integration with the other projects in the overall PMO portfolio. While managing and supporting projects from conception to finish, this position will also aid in resource management, overall portfolio and project process development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

This position will provide project management experience including, but not limited to: project plan development, requirements gathering, timeline creation and implementation, risk analysis with corresponding mitigation plans, communication plan development, and monitoring and control of execution with correlating issue tracking and resolution. The expectation will be that the project manager will facilitate coordination between customer expectations, project needs, and resource capacity. The project manager is accountable for meeting project objectives, managing the project, and ensuring appropriate communication is occurring to management or appropriate governance committees regarding progress, status, issues, and metrics. The individual will assess past, current, and upcoming tasks immediately addressing latency or issues with appropriate manager and director involvement. The project manager will also work to ensure resource usage fits within the overall portfolio with weekly assessment to analyze and correct resource over allocation. In addition to direct project management duties, this individual will also serve as a mentor/trainer to project leads aiding them in successful execution of project processes.  The overarching end goal for this position is to aid CU in improved effectiveness and efficiency of services delivered via transparent project execution.


Job Duties:

    Create Project Proposal and Project Charter with review by Customer, and signoff by Sponsoring Director. Schedule & Present to Project Management Review Committee for approval to move onto Planning phase
  • Planning:Hold Kick off meeting with project team for planning phase
  • Define roles, responsibilities, and stakeholdersGather requirements (with signoff by Customer), developing, assessing and selecting proper strategy for the project (SDLC or other)Creation of appropriate architecture designs and attribute identification with review by Design Review TeamInitial creation of risk register with beginning risk identification and mitigationCommunication plan reflecting audience, frequency, review by, and execution datesCreates required forms and follows procurement process (DQ, RFP, PO, etc.)Creation of work breakdown structure predecessors, effort, resources, reflecting requirements, design, risk mitigation, communication, and other as identified by planning team. Review of timeline with both project team and customer.Final presentation to Project Management Review committee for approval to move into Execution phaseExecution:
      Schedule, lead, and facilitate weekly meetings base lined against timeline and update Project PlanManage project plan and hold resources accountable for on-time task completionControl and monitor project scope within weekly status meeting with status report out per communication planAssess resource usage weekly within timeline and ensure over allocations are corrected or Director attention is brought to resource assignment if larger portfolio issue exists (resource assigned to multiple projects at same time causing issue)Ensures communication plan is being followed with correct resource involvement as defined in the planSLA updates as needed/discovered with SLA signoffReminder on documentation for service as implementation occursSchedule training for Service Desk and others as needed for service roll out and go live
      Decommission of services no longer needed post-project (old servers, databases, etc.)PM solicits feedback from customer regarding Project lessons learned to understand if success criteria have been met (scope and requirements). PM holds lessons learned sessions gathering feedback project team, and managers resulting in Lessons learned documentation

    Salary Range: Generally starting at: $ 70,693 - $94,257/yr
