Full-time, Market Range: MR07

The Min H. Kao Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) is seeking applications for a fulltime Information Technology Technician 3. This position will report to the EECS IT Specialist II. Primary duties include installation, troubleshooting of IT hardware and software and audio/visual support for departmental, and college events. Must possess the customer services skills and flexibility required to support a complex and dynamic academic and research environment.

Functional Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

  • Oversees new technology installation and maintenance.
  • Reinstalls desktops and laptops with new versions of operating systems and applications tailored to each user’s specific requirements.
  • Provides on and off-campus audio/visual support for events sponsored by EECS and the college.
  • Sets up Cisco Webex, Citrix, Zoom and other web/video/audio conferencing technologies independently or in combination.
  • Coordinates with event staff on scheduling, setup, and support of the event.
  • Trains on-site presenters in use of technology.
  • Maintain and assist in classroom technology equipment.
  • Performs backup of departmental servers and other critical systems.
  • Proactively monitors operating conditions of all technology and makes life cycle recommendations to the supervisor.
  • Research of new technologies and innovations to keep current in latest developments in IT technology.

Minimum Requirements:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/related field and three years of experience. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Experience:

  • Relevant certifications and/or demonstrated experience with computer hardware
  • Expert in Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Office 2016, Microsoft Windows 10, MAC OS X 10, and LAN/WAN connectivity skills.
  • Able to test, troubleshoot, and diagnose basic computer and electronics hardware such as power supplies, computer memory, cabling, and storage devices.
  • Able to work independently, volunteer and take ownership of problems and projects, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate, both written and orally.
