Responsibilities
Staff Development
Train, supervise, mentor and evaluate a team of Student Leaders
Assist student leaders in creating a community that is conducive to their students' academic and personal success
Facilitate weekly 1:1 meetings and team meetings
Oversee and participate in Residential Life committee programs, activities, and events
Assist with budget management, including responsibly processing receipts
Be available, approachable, and accessible to residents and student leader team members
Uphold all University and Housing policies and procedures
Serve as a Hearing Officer for low-level cases, as assigned by your direct supervisor
On-Call Responsibilities
Respond to all emergency situations in a calm, responsible and professional manner
Participate in the professional on-call responsibilities as the first on-site responder:
While on-call, HCs must be within a 10 minute radius from campus and be able to respond to any incident.
Communicate with BYU- Hawaii Public Safety and on-call clinicians including university nurse and counselling services team
Document all incidents in a responsible and timely manner using student conduct software
HCs must understand, communicate, and uphold all University and Housing policies and procedures
Be knowledgeable of campus and community resources and provide information to residents when needed
Student Conduct
Demonstrate knowledge of, and show consistency and thoroughness in defining University policies and procedures
Interpret and enforce all residence hall and University policies and regulations
Ensure staff members are appropriately confronting and documenting behavioral issues and concerns
Serve as the residence hall conduct officer in consultation with the Residential Life Manager
Meet with students alleged to be in violation of low level Residence Hale policies, adjudicate cases, and sanctions
Maintain conduct records through effective use of student conduct software and maintaining accurate files
Advising
Have a great awareness of and sensitivity to cultural norms, diversity, and multiculturalism
Exhibit effective listening and mediation skills
Refer residents to on-campus resources when there is a need for professional attention
Be visible, available, and approachable to the student staff and Hale residents
Mediate conflicts between roommates and unit mates when necessary
Uphold the established standards of privacy and confidentiality
Role model appropriate behavior at all times
Administrative Responsibilities
Respond to all residential life and housing related emails and messages within 24 hours
Develop and facilitate training sessions during August and January Student Leaders Training
Assist with the resolution of crisis in an educational and timely manner
Oversee and evaluate residence hale committee programs, activities, and events
Attend and actively participate in weekly one-on-one meetings with supervisor and all HC team meetings
Conduct thorough monthly walk-through of building(s)
Act as liaison between Residential Life and Facilities Operations to assist with all room and building concerns
Additional hours during peak periods and emergencies will be required. This includes and is not limited to staff trainings, building openings and closings.
Actively participate in assigned Residential Life & Housing committee(s)
All other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree
Available to work at least 40 hours a week with flexible day, evening and weekend hours Ability to work with a diverse student and staff population
Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities
Strong interpersonal communication and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
Prior Residential Life and Housing or Student Affairs experience
Previous supervisory experience
Propensity to work independently and interdependently within a team
Investment and engagement in campus community and culture
Benefits
This is a full-time LIVE-IN position in an on-campus residence hall. The hall advisor apartment may accommodate the hall advisor and his/her family (family is defined as hall advisor, spouse, and dependent children). Due to the nature of the position and the size of the hall advisor's apartment located in single student housing, applicants with more than TWO (2) children will not be eligible for consideration. All children must be under the age of six.
