Job Description Summary

As part of the Department of Psychiatry, the Neurodevelopment & Psychosis Section and the Lifespan Brain Institute (LiBI) are devoted to the study of brain and behavior throughout the lifespan.

The main projects are two multi-site studies. The D1 examines the dose-related effects of a potential therapeutic on neuroimaging biomarkers in schizophrenia patients. The project involves multiple visits for each participant, adherence to inclusion/exclusion criteria, clinical and cognitive assessment, laboratory tests, MRI scanning and data integration. The US/Israel Binational Science Foundation project is an international collaboration that aims to identify biological mechanisms that link early life stress to inflammatory processes and the risk for psychosis spectrum in children and adolescents with 22q11.2DS. This work will identify specific biological mechanisms that mediate the risk for psychosis, and can consequently be used as targets to develop novel treatment modalities for patients affected with schizophrenia spectrum disorders.

The Clinical Research Coordinator B will take part in the collection of clinical assessment data from individuals suffering from neuropsychiatric disorders from recruitment through quality assessment and data analysis.

Clinical Research Coordinator B for Psychosis

The Psychosis Research Center is recruiting a Clinical Research Coordinator B for several collaborative research projects involving Psychosis. The projects include clinical assessment of participants with established instruments and scales as well as administration of a computerized neurocognitive battery. The projects are longitudinal and involve multiple visits and procedures with collaborators, including neuroimaging, obtaining samples of blood and cerebrospinal fluid. Experimental therapeutic interventions are part of some projects.

The Clinical Research Coordinator B responsibilities include overseeing the protocols and ensuring adherence to procedures including recruitment efforts, clinical intake, clinical assessment with established scales, adhering to schedule and quality control. The position requires coordination with multiple Penn collaborators and other sites.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in biomedical related field and 2-4 years of prior clinical research experience working in psychosis or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Educational background in clinical psychology with a Masters degree is preferred. High organizational skills and established skills in complex clinical studies are essential. Must be able to multi-task and shift from one project to another depending upon priority. Candidates must possess demonstrated computer skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, data management skills, and experience working independently.

Background check required. Must pass Pennsylvania s Child Protective Services Act (also known as Act 73) background checks, within 30-90 days of employment. Position contingent on funding.
