Your opportunity:

Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) is an objectives-based program for massively scalable, seed-stage science- and technology-based companies. The program's objective-setting process enhances the performance of technical founders who learn from the insights of experienced entrepreneurs, increasing their probability of success.

Founded in 2012 at the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, the program has now expanded with locations in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal, Halifax, Oxford, Paris, Atlanta, and Wisconsin. Since its inception, companies that have participated in the CDL program have created more than $7.5 billion (CAD) in equity value.

As the Director, Network Operations, you will be responsible for all CDL network operational activities. This includes the development, refinement, and alignment of standard operating procedures and virtual CDL platform technology integration / optimization / use. You will be responsible for talent / training / development of team members across our network of nine universities, including planning and executing the annual week-long training conferences for all 150+ team members, the annual moderator training conference, the annual venture manager training conference, and training of operations staff across all sites as well as being overall responsible for managing, updating, and enforcing standard operating procedures, directing the training of all session staff including small group meeting hosts, and directing all training and optimizing use of the CDL technology stack.

You will be focused on the community portal (onboarding, overseeing technical maintenance and improvements, improving user experience, integrating new features, maximizing participation), the CDL-Global Standard Operating Procedure Manual, CDL team training (Salesforce and data stewardship, moderation, venture documents, session execution, Super Session-specific training, and venture recruitment), and technology training (Slack, Zoom, Airtable).

You will play a pivotal leadership role in ensuring exceptional execution of virtual and in-person sessions, aligning operational practices and sharing lessons learned across all sites, ensuring standardization and quality of training across the network, ensuring adherence to and improving standard operating procedures, integrating best practices in program / project management in all CDL activities, managing enterprise accounts and expanding our use of enabling technology, managing strategic-level special projects, advising new sites on operational best practices and supporting their stand-up, and acting as the senior adviser to the Executive Director on all matters related to operations thus contributing towards the overall success of the Lab.

You will foster a team-based culture, create an environment where knowledge-sharing, support, training tools, coaching and staff development ensure that service levels meet or exceed expectations and foster a workspace that encourages, recognizes and rewards creativity, innovation and excellence, and personal accountability.

Essential Qualifications:

I. EDUCATION:

MBA or other relevant post graduate degree; a combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered.

II. EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of five (5) years’ experience developing and integrating educational platforms, developing and delivering technical training programs and in managing and leading interdisciplinary teams. Demonstrated experience with data management and analysis. Demonstrated experience in planning, coordinating and leading large scale events for high profile guests. Project management experience required (PMP designation preferred). A record of leadership and vision combined with an awareness of current and emerging technology development, commercialization, and new venture development across the province and Canada.

III. SKILLS:

Deep level of expertise in negotiating enterprise agreements and software/technology stack integrations. Advanced skills in, and knowledge of, emerging communications technologies (i.e. Slack, Airtable, Salesforce). Advanced computer skills including GSuite and Microsoft Office applications. A creative but pragmatic strategic thinker with strong managerial, follow-through, and implementation skills. Outstanding time management skills and the proven ability to effectively delegate and supervise large groups spread over a significant area and teams with varying levels of experience and skill. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Highly developed problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

IV. OTHER:

Strong team-oriented work ethic with willingness to work independently and autonomously. Demonstrated respect for confidentiality and strong sense of professional ethics. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects or priorities simultaneously across multiple teams with strong organizational skills. Ability to handle ambiguity and work effectively in a dynamic and sophisticated organization.
