Department Information The Parker H. Petit Institute for Bioengineering and Bioscience (http://petitinstitute.gatech.edu) located in Georgia Tech's thriving Biotechnology Complex was launched in 1995 and has since grown to include 240+ faculty and 20 interdisciplinary research centers. The Petit Institute serves to catalyze new research and education initiatives at the interface of bioengineering and the biosciences and integrate the broad range of bio-related activities throughout Georgia Tech and its partner institutions.

Job Summary Provide professional level support to a school or research laboratory within the Institute in conducting and reporting results of tests and experiments. Includes coordination of lab testing processes, analysis of data and protocol design. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and research faculty, co-workers. This position typically will advise and counsel: academic and research faculty, co-workers. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Compile and analyze tests data and report findings.


Job Duty 2 -
Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related databases.


Job Duty 3 -
Operate or advise in the operation various equipment used in research studies.


Job Duty 4 -
Investigate and propose alternative experiment procedures.


Job Duty 5 -
Participate as directed in experiment design and preparation.


Job Duty 6 -
Participate as directed in preparation of presentations and manuscripts.


Job Duty 7 -
Train in laboratory processes and proper use of laboratory equipment.


Job Duty 8 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
Two to three years of job related experience.

Skills
This job requires working knowledge of the principles and practices of scientific and related laboratory operations. Includes skill in data organization, management and evaluation; statistical analysis; project organization; and, use of advanced statistical and scientific computer applications.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education

BS or MS in Cell & Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, Immunology or a related discipline.

Preferred Experience

1+ year track record of lab-based life science research with exceptionally high standards of detail-oriented experimental execution

Preferred Skills

Demonstrated expertise with: PCR, restriction digestion & cloning, primer design, plasmid isolation and analysis, bacterial and yeast transformation and screening, DNA sequencing and analysis.

Preferred experience with: advanced molecular biology methods (Gibson cloning, overlap/extension PCR, SELEX, mutagenesis, molecular library creation), 96/384-well plate assays, yeast transformation and growth, flow cytometry, protein engineering concepts, phage display, surface display.

Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multitask efficiently.

Additional tasks may include: Maintaining, and operating equipment in the Molecular Evolution core facility; Maintaining, developing and executing new and existing SOPs for the techniques and services provided by the core facility. Providing training to scientists and students interested in the facility services; Maintaining service records and billing of clients.
