The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology Oncology Bone Marrow Transplantation has an opening for a part-time Professional Research Assistant position. 

Nature of Work:

  • Laboratory-based translational research on the immunology of cancer.
  • Conduct experiments; assist with project planning, data interpretation, contribute to publications and lab management.

Position Emphasis:

Maintain research mouse colony 80%

  • Set up mouse matings
  • Tag/tail/genotype progeny
  • Address any problem issues with mouse colony
  • Interact with animal facility staff
  • Maintain on-line and printed records of animals in colony
  • Perform genotyping PCR reactions and run gels, interpret
  • Order primers for genotyping
  • Troubleshoot genotyping PCRs
  • Record genotyping results and maintain database
Laboratory maintenance 20%

  • Prepare autoclaved tips, tubes, and Pasteur pipettes
  • Monitor and maintain laboratory stocks and equipment
  • Prepare buffers
  • Obtain stocks from on-campus stores
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:

The hourly rate for this position has been established at $17.12 to $25.00.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above hourly rate represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

    Bachelors of Science or Bachelors of Arts in Cell Biology or closely related fieldOne year of related research experience

Preferred Qualifications:

    Previous experience with mouse models, including performing tail vein injections, cloning, sacrifice, lymph node harvesting and plasmid preparation

    Prior experience with maintenance of mouse colonies and modelsAble to troubleshoot, design experiments, and collaborate amongst peersExcellent communication skills using the English languageAbility to follow and maintain protocols when handling hazardous materials
