The Robert M. Berne Cardiovascular Center at the University of Virginia seeks candidates for a Senior Research Scientist to perform research on immune mechanisms in cardiovascular disease. The incumbent will develop state of the art assays for evaluating the impact of genetic and epigenetic alterations on immune cell biology in subjects with cardiovascular disease. These novel findings will be evaluated in a well phenotyped cohort of human subjects with advanced cardiovascular imaging for association with disease severity and progression. The work will involve designing, carrying out and analyzing experiments with the goal of understanding how immune cells regulate atherogenesis. Further, the incumbent will be responsible for generating abstracts and manuscripts of sufficient quality to be published in high impact journals and for supervising undergraduate and graduate students.
Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD, or equivalent degree in a relative scientific field of study by appointment start date, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Proven grant writing skills is also important (e.g., post-doctoral awards and/or submitted PI-level grants).
Priority candidate review will begin March 10, 2021, but the position will remain open until filled.
