Under the guise of senior administration this position will manage and streamline day-to-day operations of our large scale program, Speech@Emerson to ensure it functions in a high quality, efficient and fiscally responsible manner. The candidate will be responsible for informing, streamlining, and implementing fiscal planning, budgeting, procurement, process development, and the implementation of standard operational procedures.

The Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) online Master's program, Speech@Emerson, combines online and in-person learning for aspiring speech-language pathologists across the US. Our program prepares students to become Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) capable of working in any setting, with a variety of disorders, across the lifespan.

CSD is seeking an Assistant Director, Business Operations that will manage and streamline day-to-day operations of our large scale program, Speech@Emerson, to ensure it functions in a high-quality, efficient and fiscally responsible manner. In partnership with CSD leadership the Assistant Director is responsible for informing, streamlining, and implementing fiscal planning, budgeting, procurement, process development, and the implementation of standard operational procedures. This person will work with vendors and senior administrators to secure technical solutions, develop budgetary and payment models and oversee and implement strategic initiatives that will impact the growth and longevity of our students, alumni and community members. The Assistant Director will work cross-functionally with central offices and CSD administration to analyze and improve organizational processes, and will help inform quality, productivity and efficiency across the program and department.

Business Operations:
  • Oversee and monitor daily operations of a large scale program and problem solve issues with an end-to-end resolve approach.
  • Analyze data to inform and improve business processes and overall operations.
  • Create and maintain audit controls to ensure quality of data, service and information.
  • Create processes and business models that will allow the program to scale.
  • Partner with leadership to develop and document standard operating procedures for accreditation and training purposes, as well as to meet business objectives, ensure compliance and ability to scale.
  • Develop and oversee the programs annual business operating calendar that includes pivotal time frames.
  • Oversee and inform the advancement of systems, documentation and centralization of information.
  • Develop models and platforms that will inform and support student and program community members (faculty, facilitators, convenors, placement supervisors, etc.).


Integrations with leadership and institutional vendors:
  • Partner with leadership to inform and prioritize projects and participate in short and long-term planning to further the department's program goals.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with institutional vendors (2U, IES and publishing companies, etc.) and central departments to inform and secure standard operating procedures, technical solutions, reports and large scale reconciliations.
  • Provide guidance to contract vendors to ensure efficient operations and high quality service.
  • Facilitate different teams to foster exchange of ideas, lead projects and provide cross-functional learning opportunities.
  • Create and present proposals to management and stakeholders.


Finance & Budget:
  • Oversee the budget, manage financial expenses and maintain accurate records of spend and revenue to track fund balances.
  • Analyze financial data to forecast cost and complex budget projections.
  • Lead fiscal reconciliation(s) with 2U, IES, and institutional partners.


Your Skills and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • 3-5 years of experience in business or administrative work settings.
  • Advanced analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills to adapt policies and systems to advance models, initiatives, and programs.
  • Ability to focus on providing analyses and applying results to improve business operations.
  • Ability to devise solutions with limited information and use past experience or precedent to identify solutions to resolve issues.
  • Experience managing heavy volume in a deadline-driven environment, and the ability to manage multiple timelines.
  • Advanced excel skills manipulating spreadsheets (pivot tables, V look-ups, charts).
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Google Suite.
  • Experience overseeing and developing complex budget and financial models Fluent developing, documenting, and implementing standard operating procedures.
  • Able to present effectively to small and large groups and working productively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.
  • Experience partnering with vendors, stakeholders and administration to lead and implement projects.
  • Able to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work autonomously and resourcefully.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with personnel at various levels.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work occasional nights, weekends, and during program Immersions. You'll be preferred if you have:
  • Experience working with multiple databases and platforms.
  • Fluent with webinar technology such as Zoom.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Banner, Workday and Cognos.
  • Strong budgetary and accounting background.

    Grade of Position: A16E

    Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36.25

    Hiring Range: $61,350.00 - $64,300.00
