Position Description
We seek an experienced scientist to advance our research at the University of California, Los Angeles Department of Neurosurgery in the laboratory of Dr. Mayumi Prins.
Dr. Prins's laboratory studies traumatic brain injury in preclinical models. Our research focuses on mild and severe brain injuries and examine metabolic, inflammatory, gut microbiome changes, sex differences in recovery and exercise. We conduct studies in animal models that allow us to understand the time course of injury and recovery so that we can appropriately address therapeutic interventions. Eventually these findings will be validated in humans through clinical trials. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and undergraduate student researchers, preparing manuscripts for publication in scientific journals, and assisting with the preparation of grant proposals.
Specific Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this position include study design, data acquisition, statistical computation, and literature review and manuscript/grant preparation.
Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD or MD or both. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in the following areas: neurophysiology, molecular biology, rodent surgery and TBI models, and data analysis.
Applicants must have experience with the use of flow cytometry, immunohistochemical, animal behavioral assessments, gut microbiome data analysis and statistics. Prior experience with traumatic brain injury is preferred.
