About this Position

The Department of Psychology in the College of Arts & Sciences is seeking a full-time Research Associate 1 to join Dr. Elizabeth Losin’s Social and Cultural Neuroscience Lab. The SCN Lab combines theory and methodology from anthropology, psychology, and neuroscience to understand the complex relationships between culture, the brain, and health. Applicants with previous research experience, undergraduate statistical training, and experience with computer programming are highly encouraged to apply.

Candidates should include a brief cover letter with their application, detailing their relevant research experience and research goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, computer science, engineering or a related field required

  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required

  • Strong computational skills including statistical analysis and computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, R, Python) preferred

  • Experience collecting and analyzing physiological and fMRI data preferred

  • Spanish language proficiency preferred

Core Responsibilities:

  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

  • Potentially may participate in the publication of significant results.

  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.

  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.

  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs data management and quality control of data.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Lab Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assists Principal Investigator with experimental task design and stimulus creation

  • Coordinates participant recruitment and behavioral and MRI data collection

  • Manages data organization and analysis

  • Supports Principal Investigator with IRB protocol preparation and management

  • Assists Principal Investigator and lab members with grant and publication preparation
