Georgetown University in Qatar invites applications for a temporary, part-time position of Instructional Designer. The position will work with GU-Q faculty in the spring and summer (possibly into fall) to support them with course design and development for remote, hybrid and in-person instruction. The preference is for the position to start as early as possible in March, 2021 and the anticipated workload will be 20 to 30 hours per week.

As this position is based in Doha, Qatar and offers no relocation assistance, GU-Q is only looking for candidates based in Qatar or in the U.S.

All locally-based applicants should already have the necessary sponsorship to live and work in Qatar. The U.S.-based applicants would work remotely (according to Qatar business timings) and should have the necessary authorization to work in the United States.


  • Provide faculty with support and guidance in the form of group trainings and 1-1 consultations for the development/revision of online courses;
  • Collaborate with faculty members to identify and implement individualized methods or strategies for integrating technology into their teaching and learning goals;
  • Collaborate with faculty and provide training in the effective use of instructional technology and “best practices” methods;
  • Provide faculty support and development for using educational technology tools in particular the Canvas learning management system and associated tools;
  • Conduct group trainings/webinars and provide 1-1 consultations on current developments and “best practices” in support of the integration of educational technology tools;
  • Design training materials, demonstrations and opportunities for faculty;
  • Work with Associate Dean for Teaching Learning and Assessment to provide various educational technology solutions for GU-Q's academic community;
  • Coordinate with DC campus colleagues around educational technology and instructional design technologies and developments.

  • Masters' degree in instructional design or related discipline or equivalent;
  • Experience in providing instructional technology support in higher education;
  • Knowledge of best practice with programs and tools, online pedagogy, and teaching, learning and assessment in higher education;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with members of the GU-Q academic community.
