RESEARCH TECHNICIAN II - ASOKAN LAB DEPT OF SURGERY

The Asokan laboratory in the Department of Surgery is focused on gene therapy research. Ongoing efforts include advancing viral vector development through our expertise in molecular biology and scalable recombinant virus production capabilities. We are currently seeking to hire a skilled research technician to assist in the production of viral vectors for different gene therapy applications. A competitive salary and benefits package will be provided according to the Duke University School of Medicine guidelines.
The candidate will work closely with lab members including the PI, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and research technicians to manage daily lab activities, which include:
- Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies and equipment for the laboratory
- Order and track shipments of lab supplies, generate purchase orders for lab supplies, and maintain service contracts for lab equipment
- Clean and maintain laboratory equipment
- Cell culture maintenance
- Assist lab members with performing short term experiments assigned by the PI
- Maintain lab safety documents, maintain training records and ensure compliance
- Monitor COVID safety requirements and ensure compliance by lab members
- Assist with maintaining database of lab plasmids, viral vector stocks and cell clones
Work requires a Bachelor’s degree in biology, genetics, zoology, microbiology or other related scientific field
Experience with lab management and general knowledge of cell biology techniques as well as lab safety is REQUIRED.
Prior experience with budgeting and accounting is preferred.
