Actively participate as a member of the UNC Sports Nutrition staff and serve on the football performance team. The Football Sports Dietitian Fellow reports directly to the Director of Nutrition and provides nutrition services to the football program.
*Attend football workouts, practices and games to provide the care, education and fuel necessary for peak performance. *Collaborate with sports medicine staff to monitor student-athlete hydration, determine sweat rates and cramping risk, and design individualized hydration plans. *Address nutritional challenges to performance, such as food allergies, bone mineral disturbances, gastrointestinal disturbances, and micronutrient deficiencies *Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for recovery from illness or injury. *Coordinate nutritional care as a member of multidisciplinary sports medicine teams and attend the monthly Athlete Eating Disorder Treatment Team Meetings. *Attend football performance team meetings and assist Director of Sports Nutrition with updates on student-athletes progress and areas for improvement.
*Collaborate with food service provider to develop and manage team meal menus and catering. *Attend football team meals and actively coach student-athletes to educate and enhance student-athlete meal choices.
*Assist Director of Sports Nutrition with coordination of Football Team Travel and Game Day duties. *Develop and deliver educational material and team talks for athletes and peers (Grocery Store Tours, Food Demos, Cooking Classes).
*Assist in micronutrient testing protocols and distribution of supplements.
*Assist in the management of UNC Football Sports Nutrition social media accounts
*Examine and translate scientific research related to nutrition, athletic performance and dietary supplements. Evaluate and document all dietary supplement inquiries. *Assess and analyze dietary practices and body composition (DEXA) of football student athletes. Work in collaboration with EXSS department.
*Supervise and delegate tasks to volunteer student interns. Oversee all football fueling stations (including Blue Zone, Training Table, Indoor Practice Facility, Nutrition Storage Closets, Gatorade Recovery Bar in Football Weight Room).
*Perform various administrative duties.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of high school plus one year of experience involving general food service with special emphasis on health caredietetics, or closely related health careexperience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a four year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in foods and nutrition dietetics or public health nutrition; or completion of an ADA Dietetic internship with ADA Commission.
Registered Dietitian or RD eligible within 3 months of hire; North Carolina Licensure obtained within first 3 months of hire.

-Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
-Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Work, Prezi, Canva and Piktochart to assist in creation of education materials and presentations
-Knowledge and understanding of NCAA and ACC bylaws
