Job Description

The Office of Student Involvement (OSI) at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) engages students in a vibrant campus community through holistic, co-curricular experiences. Toward this aim, the OSI offers a broad menu of leadership and involvement programs and initiatives and serves as resource to the entire campus community.

The Office of Student Involvement seeks a student-centered, team-oriented individual for the Coordinator of Leadership and Student Organization Development position. Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Engagement and Director of the OSI, the Coordinator is a member of the dynamic and highly collaborative Office of Student Involvement team. This team promotes individual student engagement and registered student organization development at UMKC.

Primary responsibilities for the Coordinator for Leadership and Student Organization Development include:

    Serve as primary campus liaison for all student organization related issues and point of contact for student organization related questions and requests campus wideFacilitate campus collaborations and partnerships related to student organization developmentManage OSI student organization office space, student organization resource allocations, and the OSI Resource Room for student organization marketing and promotional needsManage budget lines for OSI Resource Room, student recognition program, and registered student organization programs, travel, services, and resourcesReview, recommend, and develop policies and procedures for student engagement in support of registered student organizationsDevelop resources and implement programs to help educate and train students on financial best practices and risk and liability managementLead the management and promotion of campus-wide online management system (RooGroups – Engage, Anthology Product)Develop, implement, and assess programs, initiatives, and trainings promoting student organizations and student leadership developmentAdvise and develop the Student Activity Fee CommitteeWork collaboratively with all students to plan, promote, and implement programs, services, and resources that enhance student engagement and student organization development
Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Affairs, or related field (earned prior to start date) with 1-3 years of experience working in a university setting is preferred. (A graduate assistantship held during graduate school will be viewed as 1 year of work experience.) The Office of Student Involvement is seeking a Coordinator to support the growth and development of student organizations at UMKC. Proven experience working with student organizations, supervising and/or advising undergraduate students, strong budget management skills, and utilizing an online campus involvement management system (such as Engage, Campus Groups, Anthology, etc.) is strongly preferred. Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends is a must.

    Knowledge and understanding of best practices in student organizations and student engagementAbility to translate student development, leadership theory, and best practices into a transformational learning environmentProven ability to make confident decisions in a fast-paced, change-oriented, student-focused environmentExcellent project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, adhere to strict timelines, make quick decisions, and propose and implement effective solutions to roadblocks and problemsExceptional interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated willingness and commitment to working with students, university faculty/staff, and community partners from diverse backgroundsDemonstrated ability to supervise student teams and facilitate group developmentDemonstrated programming experience (from inception to planning and implementation to assessment)Demonstrated ability to be team-oriented with a commitment to excellence

$47,476 - $48,900 annually
