Career Coach for Haslam College of Business – Career Development & Academic Exploration

Regular Full-time, Pay Range MR07

Position assists undergraduate business students with career plan strategy and implementation through individual and group career coaching; teach in the Haslam Leaders course series and deliver training/programs to student groups, classes, and university staff as needed. Build relationships/connections among the career community to create opportunities for experiential learning, networking and job and graduate school success. This is a dual-funded role between the Center for Career Development and Academic Exploration and the Haslam Undergraduate Professional & Career Development and will be a part of both units.

Job Function/Responsibilities:

STUDENT ADVISING: Conduct individual/group career coaching sessions for students within designated majors on industry information, job and experience strategies, development of communication resources such as resumes, interviews, letters, and LinkedIn profiles, etc.; Utilize Handshake and other relevant technologies to facilitate communication/promotion, maintain counseling case notes, and collect and compile data including but not limited to appointments, programming, recruiting activity, assessments and first destination outcomes; Track students from designated majors and industry areas and collect data on internships and first destinations of graduating seniors and graduate students; create and disseminate reports based on this information; Plan/Develop/Facilitate career events and initiatives as needed to address career needs and create opportunities for engagement and connections among the career community. Advise Haslam College of Business students during summer orientation if needed.

TEACHING: Teach career development course in Haslam Leaders course series each semester. Grade and assess learning outcomes. 

EMPLOYER RELATIONS: Develop employer relationships through need-based recruiting consultation; Maintain successful recruiting activity via job and internship advertising utilizing on-line technologies and on-campus programming; Increase employer engagement on campus via participation in events (career fairs, networking events, etc.); Collaborate with faculty/professional staff to deliver career development and employment information and services to various majors/classes/organizations/ departments (advising centers, student professional organizations, and others).

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT & LEADERSHIP:  Engage in professional development activities/trainings to maintain current knowledge of higher education  and employment and industry trends. Provide limited direction and assistance to Graduate Assistant on Career Coaching team, Peer Career Advisors, Peer Communication Consultants, and practicum/intern students.

OTHER: Market opportunities and events to students through emails and newsletters including Haslam Career Weekly. Assist with execution of events and programs consistent with the mission of both units, including career fairs, departmental marketing, community outreach, etc. Promote a campus-wide career culture to students, families, and faculty.  

Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

Master's degree in college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling or related area. 

Required level/type of experience:

1 academic year experience (which could include graduate assistantships) working with clients on job search related skills and topics. 

Preferred level/ype of experience:

1 academic year experience (which could include graduate assistantships) working with college students in a setting related to career development, academic advising or student success; Experience working with students from designated academic disciplines or associated employment industries. Experience working in a corporate environment.

Preferred knowledge, skill, and abilities:

Knowledge of job search strategies and career development theories, best practices, and resources; Knowledge of on-line career database systems and other current/emerging technologies within the career development field; Ability to build relationships across populations, internal and external to the University. 

Competencies/Qualifications:

Strong interpersonal skills, including oral, written, and listening communication capabilities; Ability to plan, organize and coordinate events and programs; Strong computer skills.
