SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary is commensurate with training and experience. This is a grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingent

upon performance and funding. Benefits include group hospitalization and life insurance, State Employees Retirement;

Workers’ Compensation; sick and annual leave; numerous University of Tennessee and state benefits programs, including

liberal time off for holidays and longevity pay after three years of service; reimbursement for official travel.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

The position of Extension Assistant I, Human Development Special Projects, will work closely with Human Development Specialists in the UT Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Department. This position will assist in the delivery of current, research-based subject matter information and educational training primarily, but not limited to, Extension agents and grant-served populations. Additional responsibilities include co-authoring publications for public distribution to support the educational programs and grants, and assist with planning and conducting regional and statewide events. 

Current special projects include supporting the creation of resources and tools used to address Adverse Childhood Experiences, Social-Emotional Learning, individual and family stress, and mental health in rural communities. This position requires a strong understanding of the interactions and influences of culture, socioeconomic status, resource accessibility, and family functioning. Strong candidates will have knowledge and experience addressing issues from a community-based perspective. 

This position will need to address current needs and anticipate upcoming needs in a manner that problems can be responded to proactively. It will be important for this position to keep current in assigned subject matter area and strive for professional improvement by means of study, seminars, professional meetings, and self-evaluation.

Duties

  • Assist with Program Development & project management (including curriculum development and grantsmanship) includes determining program content.
  • Assist with conducting needs assessment and environmental scanning.
  • Assist with in-person and e-learning teaching (in-service training for agents, grant-related populations, and multi-county programs) including the appropriate teaching methods.
  • Assist with maintenance of materials hosted on internal and external websites
  • Participate in evaluation and reporting requirements of the grant program
  • Participate in formative, process, outcome and/or impact evaluation and reporting for project
  • Foster and maintain partnerships with program stakeholders
  • Assume other duties as necessary or as assigned


  • Qualifications
    REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: 

    • Bachelor’s Degree in child and family studies, family and consumer sciences, human development or closely related field.
    • Master’s degree preferred with emphasis in child and family studies, family and consumer sciences, human development or closely related field
    Experience: 

    • 1-2 years working in related field of community-based training/teaching
    • Knowledge of UT Extension FCS-related programming preferred
    Job Skills:

    • Interpersonal and organizational skills, knowledge of standard accounting principles
    • Ability to work in a deadline-oriented environment
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products
    • Good customer service skills and ability to work with a variety of people
    • Strong understanding of adverse childhood experiences and impact of emotional well-being in daily life preferred
    • Ability to learn and adapt to online teaching in multiple formats preferred
    • Ability to research, interpret, and summarize empirically-based information preferred
